Honolulu Avenue & Verdugo Road Intersection is Getting a Facelift!
If you have been in the Verdugo Road and Honolulu Ave intersection in the past few days you will notice that the City of Glendale Public Works Dept. has begun an intersection improvement project. The city is working to make this intersection safer, more functional and beautiful. The intersection improvement project will include reconstruction of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, center islands, striping and pavement marks and ADA curb ramps. This will help make the area by the two bus stops there safer and easier to walk to. The company the city hired to oversee the construction is the PIMA Corporation. They released a letter regarding the project that you can find on the City of Glendale’s website, www.glendaleca.gov. PIMA is committed to working with the community during the project to help alleviate the impact of the construction on daily activities. They will also post no parking signs in the work zone 24 hours in advance of working a particular part of the street and post door hangers if necessary that target the day they expect to be in various areas if there will be a large impact near there. They advise, “If you need to drive through the construction zone, please allow additional commuting time.” As we all know, this is a very busy intersection especially during the morning and evening work commutes, so please remember that. Barring any unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions, the project is scheduled for completion by November 2014. If you experience any difficulties with the project or have any general questions, you can contact Yvonne Guerra at the City of Glendale Public Works Dept. at (818) 548-3945 x 8331 or contact Norayr Taverdian from PIMA Corporation at (310) 864-5266.
This project is funded in part by the HSIP and Metro. The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) is a core federal-aid program. The goal of the program is to achieve a significant reduction in traffic fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is responsible for the continuous improvement of an efficient and effective transportation system for Los Angeles County. Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich and Glendale City Councilmember Ara Najarian both serve on the board of directors for this organization.
