La Perla Design Gallery has the perfect gift

Mary Dawson

As I was in La Perla (2315 Honolulu Ave.) recently a woman walked up to the counter with the cutest little thing in her hand.  What was it? Turns out the customer’s name was  Jill Pfieffer and she was buying a salt dish with a tiny little spoon. It was exquisite, done in metal and shaped like a leaf. Jill said everyone in England had one at their place setting before communal salt shakers were invented. She was buying this for her friend in the hopes that she would think of her whenever she used it. We both watched as owner Jake Menachian did an expert job of La Perla gift wrap: a box, paper wrapped in rich brown paper and tied with a golden ribbon. Impressive indeed.
And thus, my friends, I introduce you to La Perla.
This is the vision of Jake and partner George Ashjian, a place where you can find a special gift that will last a lifetime and impress the recipient.
Now we all know Father’s Day is coming up. I bet Dad doesn’t have really good cuff links or a gourmet pen made with recycled seats from Dodger Stadium or actual baseballs used in the game. Each set is numbered with the game and state, etc. Who thinks of this stuff? And it’s so classy and well presented.
Another specialty of La Perla is wedding and housewarming gifts. The store is full of really unique serving pieces like cake plates and platters. If you are lucky enough to get one, you’ll use it and cherish it. Take for example their handmade Czech Republic glasses. Each one is unique. They are sold as a set of two and packaged in a fabric lined box. Is it handmade jewelry you are after? La Perla has jewels from around the world. When asked about price Jake said La Perla is not as expensive as it looks. In fact their price points start at around $13. Some of their key brands include Jay Strongwater, Michael Aram, L’Objet, and Bridgewater Candles. So do stop by. I guarantee you will find something unique.
