Golf Tournament Tomorrow

The weather promises to be in the low 80s tomorrow, perfect for a round of golf. It’ll be even cooler at 8:30 a.m. when our tournament begins at Scholl Canyon Golf Course. There are still a few spaces available so feel free to throw your clubs in the car and just show up at the course between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. We’ll have fun contests on almost every hole and a great lunch at the end of the day. Tournament entry is $125.  The monies raised go toward our scholarship fund as well as to The Desi Geestman Foundation, helping children and families affected by cancer.

Also on the horizon: our annual Foothills Community Business Expo. Sponsorship deadline is today, June 29, so please call the office if you’d like to reserve a priority booth space and see your business name on all future promotional materials.  It’s a great way to show the community that you support the thriving business climate in the foothills because the Expo is put on by three area chambers: Crescenta Valley, Montrose-Verdugo City and La Cañada Flintridge. After today, exhibitor booths for the ever-popular Sept. 13 event will be available for $100 but you must be a member of one of the chambers to participate. Join today!

Today is also the last day to bring your gently used professional and business-appropriate accessories for women to the CV Chamber office. In an effort to help the City of Glendale’s Commission on the Status of Women’s Dress for Success Accessories Drive, we’ve been collecting scarves, purses, shoes, jewelry and more here at the Chamber but the goods must be taken to Glendale City Hall today, Thursday, at 2 p.m. Items can be taken directly to Glendale until Friday, June 30 at 5 p.m. We thank Assemblymember Laura Friedman for bringing this important drive to our attention.

We have some really cool T-shirts, caps and other gear with CV Sheriff Station logos including “the bear.” According to Station #12, “The Bear Goes Everywhere.”  Most items cost $20 and all proceeds benefit station personnel. The American flag on the sleeve makes the T-shirt perfect for wearing to the Fourth of July fireworks celebration!

Today is also the last day to pre-purchase Fourth of July tickets at the chamber.  They will still be available through Monday, July 3 at Bob Smith Toyota, J’s Maintenance, Crescenta Valley Insurance and Crescenta Valley Weekly. Pre-sale tickets are $7 for adults and children 8 and above. Children 7 and under and active military are free. At the gate on July 4, adult tickets are $10.

It’s important to remember that no personal or unauthorized fireworks are allowed in all unincorporated Los Angeles communities including La Crescenta.   They may cause injury, start fires and be frightening to animals and small children.  Come down to CV High and see the big show instead!

Happy Independence Day from the CV Chamber.
