A match made in heaven, that’s what Zwick’s courtyard is with Casa Cordoba in it. They were destined for each other. Add to that owners who have a long time passion in their hearts for all things Spain, a Le Cordon Bleu trained chef who studied foods and spices in Spain, and you have a culinary winner that is drawing people from all over SoCal.

I have been looking forward to writing this article for months, waiting for just the right time. Today is the first day of August, the last full month of summer, and the patio of Casa Cordoba (2331 Honolulu Ave.) is calling out with atmosphere and offers we just can’t refuse. I am excited to announce their latest venture, happy hour Spanish-style. Every Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. everything on the HH menu is only $5! This includes their famous sangria, wines and beers from Spain, as well as mouth-watering tapas. Let this whet your appetite: sausages sautéed in Riojo wine, shrimp deviled eggs, stuffed cremini mushrooms, traditional Spanish fries in española sauce and lemon aioli, and braised short ribs and crumbled bleu cheese mounted on toasted sourdough bread, just to name a few. All can be enjoyed on the soothing, gated patio as the sun starts to set.

Speaking of patios, did you know that Casa Cordoba (pronounced Core-though-ba) is named after Cordoba, Spain, a region known for its beautiful patios and fountains? Add to this ambiance little white lights and classical Spanish guitar and you feel you have been transported to Spain. Can it get any better? Yes! There are flamenco dancers, too! On Aug. 10 and Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., CC will be featuring dancers from Montrose’s own flamenco dance studio Casita Flamenca. Reservations on the patio are strongly suggested. Just call Jeannie at (818) 937-4445.

If you are a wine lover, here is a new experience for you. On Aug. 20, there will be a wine tasting paired with dinner presented by Herbie Monterrosa, a WSET advanced certified wine expert specializing in Spanish wines! To check out Casa Cordorba’s creative menu, go to their brand new website www.casacordoba.us.com. All of the dishes are made with authentic ingredients with many imported directly from Spain. The delicious signature paellas feature Valencia rice and the spices of Spain. See pics of my visits to Casa Cordoba on our Montrose Shopping Park Facebook page through www.shopmontrose.com.
