More News on the 2nd Annual Montrose Film Festival
A fun filled weekend is coming up in the Montrose Shopping Park that you will enjoy. Friday night and Saturday night, Aug. 26 and Aug. 27 marks our 2nd Annual Montrose Film Festival. This is one of my favorite events because it takes place at the end of summer, under the stars. We never know what the weather might bring. Last year it got chilly as the evening wore on and I enjoyed wrapping up in a blanket. There is a real feeling of camaraderie as you sit with your friends and neighbors and take in a good movie together.
Last week I shared the plans for Friday night. We will be showing “American Graffiti,” the ’60s classic that portrays the cruising and rock ‘n’ roll culture of that generation. The famous Sardo Brothers’ Band will be performing hits from the ’50s & ’60s.
This week I would like to entice you to come back Saturday night, too. The free movie feature is none other than “Grease,” the 1978 musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. It’s the story of teenage “bad boy” Danny and “good girl” Sandy who are attracted to each other when they meet at the beach during summer vacation. When it’s time to go back to school they unexpectedly discover they are in the same high school. And thus the teenage antics of trying to act “cool” around their friends begin. “Grease” has a best selling soundtrack of some 24 songs including “Summer Nights” and “You’re the One That I Want.” This movie will make you want to dance!
The free movie night festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. and take place at the sight of the former Montrose Theater in the parking lot next to Andersen’s Pets. There will be free hot popcorn and plenty of chairs so bring the family. The Maestro’s Band will be there performing hits from the ’60s. You can also expect to see classic cars from back in the day cruising Honolulu Avenue. For those of you who would like dinner under the stars, we will have menus available from several nearby restaurants. CV Prom Plus students will take your order and be your personal food runners. Sounds like a recipe for a perfect Montrose night, doesn’t it?
Many thanks go to film fest founders Steve Pierce and Tony Smith who are working with Dale Dawson and the MSPA board to gift us with this fine event. They have been planning it for months and there are still some surprises up their sleeve.
I’ll see you here next week with the latest. In the meantime feel free to check out our website www.shopmontrose.com. Thank you for supporting the one of a kind stores, restaurants and salons of the Montrose Shopping Park.
