September A Busy Month at the Chamber

September is shaping up to be a big month of events and activities here at the Chamber. On Wednesday, Sept. 9, we’ll be co-hosting our annual Foothills Community Business Expo. Why should you go? Number one, free food! Thanks to our sponsoring restaurants, there will be tempting bites from Kebab Daddy, Angeles National Golf Club Catering, Dream Dinners, Etc. Gourmet Kitchen, Frank’s Famous Kitchen, Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant and Pizza Man La Crescenta.

Number two, free document shredding! Volunteers will be on hand to assist you with getting your important papers from the car to the shredder, provided by Allied Waste Services.

Number three, free information! Close to 60 local businesses and organizations will fill the community room at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital to give away information and sometimes raffle prizes and freebies! There’s still time to be one of those exhibitors but you need to get your application in by Aug. 24. Call the Chamber for more info, (818) 248-4957.

Friday, Sept. 11 – a date etched in many people’s minds. The Chamber will be honoring the many victims of the events of Sept. 11, 2001 with a Remembrance Parade throughout the Crescenta Valley. The scheduled route, which begins at 9:11 a.m., will pass by five fire stations, the CV Sheriff’s Station, the Glendale Police sub-station and at least nine local schools. The entire community is invited to support the motorcade as it passes by and to attend a special ceremony that evening at Bob Smith Toyota (3333 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta). We will honor, remember and respect all those who lost their lives that day, including firefighters, law enforcement officers, military and civilians who were part of the tragic events at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and on United Airlines flights 175 and 93 and on American Airlines flights 11 and 77.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, come run with us! The annual Running the Foothills 5K will start at Two Strike Park at 8 a.m. Your $20 entry fee gets you the opportunity to be part of this fun happening as well as an event T-shirt. Racers (or walkers – there’s no need to hurry!) have the option to donate $5 of their entry fee to the school or youth organization of their choice. Booster club presidents: Here’s your chance to earn money for your athletic, music, robotics or other school group! Sign up online or mail/fax in your registration form. There will be a free Fun Run around Two Strike Park for the little ones, too ($10 with T-shirt). After your run/walk, make your morning complete by heading down to the CV Town Council’s Pancake Breakfast at CV High School.

Finally, we’re looking for a few good men … and women and volunteers. If you have a nominee for woman of the year, educator of the year, organization-, business-, volunteer- or man of the year, pick up a nomination form at the Chamber office or online. Deadline to submit is Aug. 21. We will present awards at our Recognition Banquet on Oct. 8 at Brookside Golf Club.
