Signs, and Permits, and Compliance, Oh My!

There has been lots of confusion lately in Montrose-Verdugo City regarding building signs, window and building banners, sidewalk signs and what the City of Glendale considers compliant. Hopefully, we can help clear some of this up.

In the coming weeks, the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the City of Glendale will be handing out detailed information on the current sign ordinances in the City of Glendale. It is our desire to see every business prosper in these hard times. We know that you are all working hard to get your name out there and to be “seen” and that is important. This information should help you make informed decisions before you purchase any signage for your place of business.

Also for those with a business within the Montrose Shopping Park, there will be a public hearing to change the current ordinance and allow pedestrian signs on the public right-of-way and on private property and to allow creative signs in the Montrose Shopping Park (Code Amendment Case No. PZON 2011-003). Creative signs in Montrose will be subject to the same standards as for creative signs in the Downtown Specific Plan (DSP) Area where they are currently permitted. Copies of the draft materials will be available for review prior to the scheduled Planning Commission hearing in the Community Development Department office, Room 103 of the Municipal Services Building, 633 E. Broadway. Information on public hearings or meetings for the proposed project can be obtained from Jeff Hamilton, senior planner, in the Community Development Department at (818) 937-8157.

If you have any questions regarding signs for your business, permits of any kind and compliance on any business related issue, please give us a call at the Chamber and we will be happy to help you. We can help you work with the city, get the information you need and speed up the process by getting you in contact with the people who can help you. In short, we are here to help.

Networking, Networking, Networking! Please do not forget the importance of networking with local consumers, other business owners and local community leaders. We have many opportunities for just that coming in the next month. To connect with local consumers in the Crescenta Valley, there is the tri-city business mixer coming up on Wednesday, Sept. 14. To connect with other business owners, join us for our upcoming mixer at Casinos in Motion next Wednesday. There will be five casino tables and a free roll poker tournament. Sounds like fun to me!

Lastly, to connect with local community leaders take this opportunity to connect and meet your community lead officers and local law enforcement at the Coffee with the COPPS event on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Don’t let any of these opportunities pass you by.

As always, if you have any questions, want to become a member or the chamber or have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the Chamber office.
