Becoming Acquainted with the Chamber

With the end of junior year and the beginning of a long-awaited summer break, I was on a search for an internship to keep me busy and boost my college applications. While desperately looking for a spot as an intern, I was welcomed by the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce (CVCOC).

As a first-time intern, I was anxious about the standards that I would have to meet and that I make sure not to make any mistakes. However, the staff here at CVCOC helped me to adjust and fit in. Like many students out there seeking an internship, I desired working experience at an established local business. Even though I was new and inexperienced, the staff calmly helped me learn the necessary skills for my job.

Hearing the phone calls and seeing the office adorned with colorful posters and business flyers, I got a glimpse of what CVCOC was all about. Having only heard about this organization from my peers, as an intern I was able to experience and be part of serving my Crescenta Valley community. As a bound-to-be senior in high school, college application preparation is my most time-consuming event of the summer. In the midst of my hectic schedule, I find it rewarding and a great honor to volunteer at the CV Chamber and represent this organization as a student intern. Knowing that the work I do here will ultimately benefit students like myself truly encourages me to come back every day.

Whether it is fundraising for student scholarships, holding ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new local businesses or helping to advertise and promote businesses in the Crescenta Valley area, this organization has done so much for our community. Prior to being an intern, I never realized all the seemingly simple articles and advertisements in the newspaper took so much effort and time to come up with.

The CVCOC may have a small office and is located where it is hardly seen, but it is truly the backbone of this very community. As my summer break comes to an end and the new school year approaches, I will never forget my experience at this organization. So when you have the chance, come visit our office and see for yourself the work we do!
