39th Annual Oktoberfest
Come join us at the largest “outdoor” Oktoberfest in Southern California at the 39th Annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 1 from noon to 11 p.m. on the 2200, 2300, 2400 blocks of Honolulu Avenue. CBS Los Angeles named our event as “the best place in Southern California to celebrate Oktoberfest for its nightlife and music!” Where else can you can bring your family, friends, kids, grandparents and business associates and meet up with your neighbors, receive free top quality entertainment, enjoy the games and rides and don your lederhosen? Only in Montrose. We look forward to once again carrying on this Montrose family tradition.
We will have everything that you know and love about Oktoberfest and much more. We will once again feature authentic German beer. Our beers this year are a diverse group ranging from traditional German Oktoberfest beers to local craft breweries and classic American domestic beers. We are also bringing in more craft beers this year whose breweries will be serving their seasonal Oktoberfest brews. Of course all of these beers pair well with brats and sauerkraut from local icon Schreiner’s Fine Sausages!
The German-American Brass Band of Southern California will once again be performing on the main stage. The German-American Brass Band is Southern California’s premier German brass band. Modelled after an authentic German Blaskapelle (the type of brass band that you’d find in the villages and towns of Germany, Austria, and throughout central Europe – and of course at the Oktoberfest!), the band performs traditional and contemporary festival and dance music. They perform from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on our main stage.
The D’Oberlander Dancers, the people from the highlands, will perform on three different stages. They are a social dance organization from Southern California that strives to preserve and perpetuate the customs, traditions, language, costumes, music and dances of Bavaria.
Again this year there will be four stages filled with premium entertainment. Our Main Bavarian Stage at the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue will be filled exclusively with Oktoberfest entertainment, so be sure to stop by! We have kids who will be singing in German and dancing German dances, an accordionist playing traditional Oktoberfest music and the Chicken dance will be performed by the German American Brass Band.
All of our Oktoberfest contests will be back, so please come and participate! These contests include the Lil Miss and Master, Best Dressed Dog, Mr. and Mrs. Oktoberfest and the stein holding contest. Applications are available from the Chamber office. And of course we can’t forget the rides and games for the kids. We always bring in new and different rides for you to enjoy. And we heard you! The prices for the rides were too high before so we made an adjustment and things will be back to what you know and remember. For more details log onto our website at www.MontroseOktobefest.org.
