Tucked away in the midst of all the restaurant action in the 2200 block of Honolulu Avenue is a little gem of a store. It’s called “Bella” which means “beautiful” in Italian. What draws you in is the absolutely wonderful aroma. Bella carries the whole line of “Aroma Natural” candles, made with pure essential oils, with names like “Relaxing,” “Vitality,” and “Clarity.” The first thing you do is ask, “What is that heavenly smell?” While you are trying to figure out which candle you are smelling, you start to look around and explore.
Bella is predominately a clothing store. It specializes in trendy, contemporary women’s clothes that are made in the U.S.A. You will find the Hard Tail line of eco-friendly yoga wear, to show off your “Pilates Plus” body, and jeggings. Jeggings, for those who don’t know, are the number one pant of the season. They are a combination of jeans and leggings and are so comfortable and flattering you don’t want to take them off.
Then there are the latest designer jeans. Right now it is the $90 Salsa jean that flattens your stomach. Tops that go with the jeans are trendy and sleeveless, perfect for a night on the town. If you turn around there is a T-stand with the latest little black dress. And over against the wall are pajamas with peace signs by P.J. Salvage. Fun stuff!
When you think Bella, also think accessories. It showcases local artists and lines like Kachi, which is made in Maui and contains sea glass, freshwater pearls and the like. Fun purses abound in Bella like the new shipment of Sea Bags, totes made of recycled sails. You’ll see lots of newness here while Bella stays true to its vision. New owner Janet Vandagriff has been a Bella customer since the beginning, 14 years ago. She needed a unique wardrobe to match her 20 year career in the film and TV industry and Bella fit the bill. Previous owner Tracy is her good friend. When Tracy decided to sell, Janet decided to buy. Besides loving the business she is close to home in Montecito Park. So do stop in and meet Janet for yourself. She is fun and creative. You can find Bella’s (2225 Honolulu Avenue) store hours, and see their latest arrivals, on Facebook by becoming a fan of “Bella Montrose.”
