Free Shredding Services offered at the Foothills Community Business Expo
The Foothills Community Business Expo is just around the corner on Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. There are a few spaces left so if you were thinking about being an exhibitor please contact our office right away so we can get you signed up! At the Expo you find many businesses from La Crescenta, Montrose and La Cañada Flintridge sharing with you the services that they offer. There will also be free food from several local restaurants in the area for you to sample and enjoy when you walk around. Another highlight of the event is that there will be free document shredding services available in the lower hospital lot. This service is provided by Allied/Republic Service and SCORE of Greater Los Angeles to anyone who wants to come by.
According to Dick Mader from Score, “I repeatedly shred old documents not just throw them away. If you discard them in the trash, they may end up in the hands of identity thieves.”
A shredding truck will be parked in the lower hospital parking lot on the east side of the hospital starting at 5 p.m. Local residents and business owners may bring old documents to be shredded and turned into confetti on-site. The California Association of CPAs recommends shredding the following items after a year: IRA and 401K quarterly reports and bank statements, keeping only the statements that contain tax deductible information; utility and service bills; monthly documents for brokerage accounts once you receive the year end statement; credit card statements that don’t have any tax deductions or large purchase items on them needed for insurance purposes; and pay stubs once you receive your W2 from your employer. To participate just bring your documents in a box to the lower level parking lot of the hospital. You will drive through a line where your boxes will be taken out of your car for you and shredded while you wait! It couldn’t be any easier than that. We hope to see you all there.
