Getting Ready for a Motorcade

I was talking to a friend the other day. For fun, we were describing cities in the area as if we were telling out-of-towners.   We decided La Crescenta was all about families, schools and small businesses with a hefty dose of patriotism. So it’s very fitting that the Crescenta Valley Chamber’s three big upcoming events celebrate just those concepts.

Wednesday, Sept. 14 is the Foothills Community Business Expo. This is the Chamber’s most ambitious annual event dedicated to our local businesses. It’s an opportunity for businesses and organizations to reach new customers and to network with other business owners.  Sometimes it’s hard to get customers to cross the
threshold of your place of business. Here’s an opportunity for you to come to them. Hundreds of area residents attend this free event with delicious free food and opportunity prizes. There’s free document shredding available as well. See our ad in today’s paper for more information.

Next Friday, Sept. 9, we’ll hold our annual Remembrance Motorcade and 9-11 Ceremony.  The motorcade of fire trucks, first responder vehicles, police units and vintage cars starts at 9:02 a.m. from the Ralphs Marketplace parking lot and travels a winding route throughout La Crescenta, Montrose and La Cañada Flintridge passing schools, fire stations, police stations and even JPL. If you see the motorcade pass by, please take a moment to remember and honor the many victims of Sept. 11, 2001.

Lace up your shoes and tie on your superhero cape for this year’s Halloween-themed 5K run. Previously called the CV Chamber’s Running the Foothills 5K Run/Walk; this year, since the date is mid-October, we’re encouraging participants to don their Halloween costumes and give it a go! We still leave from Two Strike Park and run along Orange Avenue. We still give back $5 per participant to the school or educational group of their choice. We still give a big trophy to the school with the most participants. We’re just doing it in October instead of September this year.  On Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 a.m. to be exact.

Registration for the Halloween Fun Run is now open. Go to www.crescentavalleychamber.org/5k to sign up. It’s only $25 for entry and T-shirt ($35 the day of the race) so sign up early! There are seven age categories with numerous opportunities to win a medal. The Kids Pumpkin Fun Run, a quick one-mile jog around the perimeter of the park, is free for the young’uns or $10 with a commemorative T-shirt. Again, you can sign up online, day or night.
