Celebrating CV Weekly’s Two-Year Anniversary

I remember the day I first met Robin Goldsworthy and Mary O’ Keefe. They were personally hand delivering the first edition of their brand new paper, a project they were very excited about. And one the MSPA wholeheartedly supports. We saw it as a paper we could call our own. A paper owned, published and written by the very people who live and work here and have Montrose in their hearts. Little did I know that soon after that meeting I would be asked to serve on the Montrose Shopping Park Board and ultimately write this column.

The inspiration for this weekly editorial came one day when I visited Ocean View Bakery. They had a new owner and I wanted to see what it was like. I discovered something I had never had before, Mexican Sweet Rolls. They were three for one dollar, made fresh every morning, and had the most beautiful sugar patterns on top. If only people knew!

How could I help get the word out? This was just one of many hidden treasures on our winding streets. What are in those shops? Who are the people that run them? What does the food taste like? Surely others want to know. Robin met with us and provided the space. I made the commitment to volunteer my time.

Each week a few precious hours are carved out to discover Montrose and share it with you. Having two stores and leading a women’s ministry at our church, life is full. But I have found by devoting a little time each week that over time a lasting portrait of the town we love is created for the world to see.
