“Everyone who got to where they are had to begin where they were.”
Richard Paul Evans

Next weekend the race is beginning at Two Strike Park and we hope you do as well with our Running the Foothills 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 with check-in starting at 7 a.m. at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. The cost is only $20 which includes a T-shirt. This year we are partnering with the Crescenta Valley Drug & Alcohol Prevention Coalition and part of the proceeds are being donated to the Rosemont afterschool sports program or the local elementary school of your choice. Even if you cannot run, your donation of $20 will go a long way to help the community and local school sports programs. You may register directly at www.LaCrescenta.org and pay by PayPal.

We would like to thank the sponsors of our Running the Foothills 5K Run/Walk: Taix Workout Studio, Extreme Boot Camp, Amber & Angeline Wacker, Bonners Party Rentals, CV Drug & Alcohol Prevention Coalition, CV Weekly, Foothill Athletic Club, Go Fit Go, J’s Maids, Maluccio Co., Mook Apparel, Riley & Assoc., Ryan’s Residential Repairs, Surface Fitness, Inc. and the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA. Thank you to these people and businesses that know the value of giving back to the community.

Have you signed up yet to walk or run the 5K? Have you finished that project at work or home that you have been putting off? Have you made your plan of action for your business? The only way to get these and more done is to begin where you are and start.

On About.com, Dawn Rosenberg McKay gives this advice to avoid procrastinating: 1) Reward yourself for not procrastinating. Give yourself a small reward after you complete a boring task. 2) Break large projects into small chunks. Dividing a big job into a series of smaller tasks will make it seem less overwhelming.
3) Prioritize the tasks that cause you to procrastinate. List the things you’ve been putting off from most to least important, or in order of when each item needs to be completed. 4) Don’t give yourself an excuse to procrastinate. You may put off starting a task because you don’t think you’ll have enough time to finish it. 5) Find a “procrastinating buddy,” a partner or a co-worker who also procrastinates.

So start where you are now and pick up the phone and call the chamber to sign up for the 5K Run/Walk. It will start that task to be in better shape and to be involved more with your community!
