Well, look at this – it’s finally here! Yes, dear reader, by the time you read this article, the 33rd annual Montrose Oktoberfest will only be two days away. Our Oktoberfest is the by far the largest event in the area, drawing thousands of people from all across Southern California. Why stay home on what will promise to be a lovely, warm Saturday?  Stop by Honolulu Avenue and spend the day enjoying the biggest event of the year in the Foothills area.

Oktoberfest has something for everyone, whether adults or children. Adults can look forward to our beer stein holding contest, eating contests, and our Mr. and Mrs. Oktoberfest contests. If you look good in a pair of lederhosen or know a friend that can sport a nifty dirndl, come to Oktoberfest Montrose and join our contests. Great prizes and fun are waiting. For the kids, we have our li’l Master and Miss Oktoberfest contests. Even your doggy can have a moment to shine at the Oktoberfest. Make your pet finally earn his way through life by having him or her don a tracht and alpine hat and enter them in our Best Dressed Bavarian Dog contest. While your little, furry friend may be chagrined at having to wear these Bavarian folk costumes, you’ll walk away happy with the great prizes you and your dog could win. I’d enter my three-legged 600-pound Rottweiler in the competition, but she tends to get a little, shall we say, temperamental when I have her dress in silly costumes. Maybe next year.

Finally, a very profound thanks and farewell to our Oktoberfest volunteer captain and MVCC board member Bud Yoho. Bud passed away Tuesday after a long struggle with cancer. We at the MVCC will miss him very dearly and we’ll always remember his hard work, good nature and cheer. Funeral services are pending. Please call the chamber for further information.
