The Running the Foothills 5k Run/Walk was a success this last Saturday! We had an estimated 300-plus runners of all ages show up to Two Strike Park in La Crescenta at 8 a.m. ready to go! The streets were full and the energy was high as everyone geared up for the blow of the horn. The weather was perfect, the sky was clear and the sun was shining.

Thank you to Linda Taix, owner and founder of Extreme Boot Camp and Taix Workout Studio located in La Cañada Flintridge, for helping us prepare for an injury-free race. She and her team stretched us out and warmed us up before the start of the race. You may have seen her truck as Linda also drove the lead car just in front of the top runner. Thank you Extreme Boot Camp trainers for your help and participation!

Our first place runner of the entire race was Stephen Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan deserves a big round of applause as he completed the race in 18 minutes and 31 seconds! This is a new record set in the nine years the race has been held. Congratulations, Stephen Sullivan! Thank you for setting the new record high.

All other results will be posted on our website www.crescentavalleychamber.org/5k on Friday, Oct. 4. Please feel free to check them out!

Another name to be recognized is our very own Rosemont Middle School principal, Dr. Cynthia Livingston. She encouraged many of our “Rosemonsters” to come out and raise money for their school. Not only did she invite her school but she also challenged many of the surrounding schools to a competition of who could raise the most money. Dr. Livingston also participated in the 5K as a runner. Her spirit and commitment to our community is not to be ignored. Thank you, Dr. Livingston!

Last, but definitely not least, I personally would like to thank all of our volunteers. Their time and assistance is much appreciated. This was my first event held exclusively by the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce; I have to say I would not have been able to make this day happen without the assistant executive director Amber Hood or the help of our volunteers. This was a great day of unity in our close-knit community. For me, it was a perfect example to remind me that joining this chamber was the best decision I could have made!
