On Friday, Sept. 21, just after noon, a brand new Starbucks held its ribbon cutting ceremony right in the heart of Montrose. The new coffee shop is located on the southeast corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue.
Store manager Joseph Agnone, a 2002 Crescenta Valley High School alum, shared his excitement about all that the new store has to offer.
“When I started working in this valley with Starbucks, I knew we’d been pretty deeply rooted in the Montrose and La Crescenta community. But we haven’t always been in the best position to give back in the greatest way to the community, so having a store in the Montrose area really enables us to have a very relevant impact in the community,” said Agnone. “And we will definitely be aiding in the Montrose Christmas parade and other annual events that go on throughout the year. Oktoberfest is coming up, and we’ll be working in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce to really try to provide the best overall experience.”
The ribbon cutting was hosted by the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce and was attended by patrons, employees, members of the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce, and numerous officials from various organizations in the area. Agnone accepted several certificates of recognition from council and chamber members.
“I think Starbucks made a very smart choice to come to this particular location. Not only is this one of the most prominent corners we have in this whole area, but certainly in Montrose, which is one of the most special neighborhoods we have in Glendale,” said Councilmember Laura Friedman. “And some people thought that maybe we didn’t have room for another coffee shop here, but I know for a fact that there are more than enough people who want to get caffeinated in Montrose. I wish Starbucks the best of luck, and we are very happy to have you.”
