Halloween Fun Run This Saturday!

Take your Halloween costume for a test spin this Saturday at the Chamber’s Halloween Fun Run, our annual 5K run/walk. It’s a great opportunity to get out in the fresh air with your friends and family and walk, jog or run your fastest along the foothills of La Crescenta. The five-kilometer route starts in Two Strike Park, goes west along Orange Avenue, then turns back so you can see your fellow participants as you head back to the park.

As usual, the good people from Taix Extreme Boot Camp will lead the pre-run warm-ups at 7:45 a.m. and then help get the race started. YMCA of the Foothills will also be on hand with an activity zone for the young ones. They’ll be doing warm-ups and leading the Pumpkin Fun Run, a short one-mile jog around the perimeter of Two Strike Park. Entry for the Pumpkin Run is free (or $10 with event T-shirt). Entry fee for the 5K is $25 until 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 and $35 the day of race.

Did you know that $5 of your entry goes to the school of your choice? Plus, the school with the highest percentage of participants wins an extra $100 and possession of the Chamber Cup!  Last year Lincoln Elementary won the honor. They’re doing well again this year with 37 participants as of last Tuesday. As of the same date, Rosemont’s at 41, Monte Vista’s at 17, Dunsmore has 8, CVHS has 3, Fremont has 5, Mountain Avenue has 4, La Crescenta Elementary has 3, Palm Crest is at 2 and Valley View has 1. Come on schools – show us what you got!

Hundreds have already registered for the run/walk. We expect a couple of hundred more the day of the race. Why not make it easy on yourself and pre-register?  Just go to www.crescentavalleychamber.org/5k no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. We’ll be sure to have your race bib ready and waiting for you on Saturday morning at the “Pre-Registered” table. Maybe you’re a last-minute kind of person. That’s fine, just show up at Two Strike starting at 7 a.m. and we’ll get you all signed up.

The race is timed and medals will be awarded to 24 lucky winners. We’ll have male and female first and second place winners in six different age groups. And we’ll have the male and female winners overall. Run with Us, the premier athletic shoe store in Pasadena, will also be on hand with prizes of their own to give out.

Glendale Adventist Medical Center’s Health Van will be on premises and Kona Ice will have shaved ice for the thirsty ones. Free water, fruit and Kashi Bars will also be available. Other vendors will have health-related information as well.

So tie on your superhero cape, don a funny hat or slip on some silly glasses (just don’t wear swim flippers!) and come on down to the Halloween Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta.
