Prescription Drug Take Back
According to the DEA, you might be a drug dealer and not even know it!
“Everyday thousands of teenagers and adults across the country abuse prescription drugs as a way to get high,” said CV Alliance Executive Director Suzy Jacobs. “Even more alarming [is that] according to the Center for Disease Control, some 26,000 Americans die annually from prescription-drug overdoses, now our second-leading cause of accidental death.”
That is why the DEA has set this Saturday, Oct. 26, aside as “Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.” From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can anonymously drop off your unwanted, expired and unused prescription drugs at one of the five locations throughout Glendale, La Crescenta, La Cañada and Montrose. The event aims to remind people of the dangers of misused, expired and often-stolen medications found in most homes.
According to Glendale Police Officer Joe Allen, “Teenagers access prescription drugs in the comfort of their own home. They do so simply by opening a drawer or medicine cabinet, or while visiting other homes.” He also added, “There is an alarming trend of pharmaceuticals being abused to substitute for illicit drugs. We want to remove some of these unused, expired medications from people’s shelves in order to minimize their abuse or misuse.”
This DEA event is held in conjunction with the Glendale Police Dept., the CV Alliance and the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Dept. You can choose from one of the following five locations to drop off your unwanted drugs: CVS parking lot at 2037 Verdugo Road at Valihi Avenue in Montrose, Rite Aid parking lot at 2647 Foothill Blvd. at Rosemont Avenue in La Crescenta, Rite Aid parking lot at 647 Foothill Blvd. at Oakwood Avenue in La Cañada, CVS Parking lot at 1122 E. Broadway at Chevy Chase in Glendale and the Smart and Final Parking lot at 1855 W. Glenoaks Blvd. in Glendale.
“The CV Alliance’s goal is to educate local teens, parents, grandparents and communities about the ill effects of any drug, whether legal or illegal,” Jacobs said, “and this event does just that.”
