Using Social Media in your Business
Using social media in your business is an important topic these days now that we live in the world of technology, social media and apps. The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce held a business luncheon on this very topic. Guest speaker Tom Lorenz gave an interesting and very informative presentation on the subject. Tom Lorenz is a 30-year law enforcement veteran and for the last 10 years served as the spokesperson and adjutant to the chief of police for the Glendale Police Dept. In 2011, he was moved into a role as the public information officer for the City of Glendale and in 2014 Tom was appointed director of Communications and Community Relations.
Tom’s focus is greater community partnerships and civic engagement through increased information accessibility, events and social media presence. Tom is a dynamic speaker and spoke about the importance of cross-promoting your business interests by using free social media sites and steering your information back to your website. This effect can snowball your information by using hash tags. Also, followers of your social media sites, such as Instagram and Twitter, can re-post your information further multiplying the amount of people viewing. It’s free, simple and effective. For those of you who would like to learn more about this subject, Tom Lorenz will be holding a free class teaching attendees how to set up accounts like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook! The class will be held in the Glendale College Professional Development Center computer room on Wednesday, Nov. 18 and each student will have their own computer for hands-on learning. A rare opportunity to take advantage of! Call the chamber office for details.
Thank you to Thee Elbow Room for providing a delicious lunch and to Kimberly Holland at the Glendale College Professional Development Center for hosting this event!
