Have you noticed? It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas lately.
In our office, we already have a holiday tree up. This one is special, though, and is an invitation to the entire generous CV community to give to those less fortunate. It’s an Angel Tree and is adorned with more than a dozen Angel Tree Tags, ripe for the picking. Each tag represents a boy or girl, 16 years of age or younger, and lists his or her top three Christmas wishes. Please come in, choose a tag and deliver your unwrapped gifts to the Salvation Army in Glendale or bring them to the Chamber and we’ll take them to the Salvation Army for you. Delivery by Dec. 12 will help organizers know what to expect. So be an angel … give a gift.
We’ve been getting a steady stream of holiday event flyers in our inbox. Here are some to put on your calendar:
On Thursday, Dec. 1, the Second Annual La Crescenta Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place in front of the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. Sponsored by L.A. County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and others, the event will feature children’s crafts, holiday music, storytelling and live performances by students of Valley View Elementary and CV High School.
The next evening, Dec. 2, Santa will throw the switch that lights up La Cañada Flintridge for its 22nd Annual Festival in Lights. The festivities go from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Park, 225 Foothill Blvd, La Cañada Flintridge.
La Crescenta Woman’s Club presents its 25th Annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Your $15 admission includes a delicious breakfast, holiday music and sing-along, holiday crafts, a photo with Santa and a special gift for each child. Prepaid reservations are not only required, they’re a very good idea since this popular event often sells out! Contact the Chamber or the Woman’s Club for details.
We’ll be sure to pass along more holiday happenings in the community via our bi-weekly eBlast. If you’re not getting it already, sign up at www.crescentavalleychamber.org (in the “Subscribe to our Newsletter” section).
Upcoming Events
Tonight at the CV Town Council meeting at 7 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library Community Room, the Town Council and the Chamber will be making a special presentation to L.A. County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich for his years of dedicated service to our community. Please come and help us thank him.
This Saturday, Nov. 19, we recommend the 6th Annual Mutt Strut to benefit the California Council of the Blind. Runners, walkers, dogs and dog-lovers are all invited to participate in the 5K or quick 2K route around beautiful Crescenta Valley Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
Afterward, consider taking your electronic waste to the recycling event at First Baptist Church, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. These convenient e-waste events don’t happen often so take advantage of this opportunity. Plus a portion of the proceeds generated go to the church.
