Education Fund Grant Recipients
The Chamber will hold its 93rd installation of its board of directors on Jan. 11. In addition, we will honor the grant recipients of the Mary Pinola/CV Chamber Education Fund. The grants that will be given this year total a whopping $20,000! This year the event will be held at the beautiful Oakmont Country Club. Here are the honorees: CVHS Instrumental Music Program, Dunsmore Elementary School, Glendale Clean & Beautiful, Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, Rosemont Middle School, Special Olympics Tri Valley Region, St. James the Less School, USC-Verdugo Hills Hospital and YMCA of the Foothills. These schools and organizations bring a lot to our community and it is our pleasure to contribute to their success.
Since its inception, this fund has awarded well over $200,000 in grants to local educational programs benefitting all our students. Major funding for these grants comes from the annual Smart-a-Thon that takes place in March. It’s a lot of fun and it’s for a good cause! So, don’t forget to mark your calendars for this fun-filled event.
And if you’re thinking of having breakfast, why not have it with Santa? The La Crescenta Woman’s Club is having its 26th Annual Breakfast with Santa! Breakfast includes homemade waffles, eggs, sausage, pastries and more. Paid admission includes a digital photo with Santa and a special gift for each child. And, unless there is an emergency, a special appearance by our local firemen!
The event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Prepaid reservations are required and a portion of the proceeds from this event will be used to benefit local charities. For questions or to make reservations, contact Casey at (818) 489-8910. This will be a great opportunity to check out their newly remodeled historical clubhouse.
Another one of Santa’s stops will be at Crescenta Valley Park on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. This is yet another opportunity for your family to have breakfast with Santa! The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and Crescenta Valley Park are offering a free breakfast, free gifts from Santa and raffle prizes! But you better watch out and you better not cry, ’cause toys and food are on a first come, first serve basis. So arrive early.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, Dec. 10 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for an opportunity to explore Bethlehem! This free event is sponsored by CVCHURCH and includes an interactive live nativity with free camel rides! This event offers perfume-making, pottery, tandy leather, story-telling, candle-making, snacks and Christmas carols in addition to a children’s nativity presentation.
Wow, there is certainly no shortage of events this month. For information about any of these events, please call the Chamber office and we’ll be happy to help. See you around town.
