We hope you have been enjoying the peace and the beauty of the Montrose Shopping Park this holiday season. I just returned from a trip to the mall that is sending me running back to Montrose. If I never have to walk through a mall again with music blaring everywhere and the roar of many voices it is fine with me. I’ll take our pretty, winding streets with mountain backdrops and friendly faces any day.
If you are looking forward to an elegant evening close to home for New Year’s Eve allow me to recommend Oceanview Bistro (3826 Ocean View). Executive Chef Eddie Banuelos has designed a savory, four-course menu of fresh, carefully prepared foods to please your palate. The special meal starts with your choice of an appetizer. You may choose from potsticker dumplings, crab cake with old bay foam, or a classic shrimp cocktail. Next is your choice of soup or salad including butternut squash soup with pumpkin seeds and cinnamon cream. Yum! For your entrée you may pick from miso-glazed grilled escolar, 10 oz. prime rib with creamed horseradish and roasted garlic mashed potatoes, (Help! I’m getting really hungry now!), New Zealand rack of lamb with sweet potato mash and mushroom demi glace, or surf & turf. Finally there is a sweet ending with seasonal desserts such as peppermint stick brownie ice cream.
The festivities start at 6:00 p.m. At 9:00 p.m. there will be live entertainment by Kenny Cetera, formerly of the famous group Chicago! From the sound of things you’d better call (818) 248-2722 right away to reserve your table.
By the way, they will be featuring wines from the Napa Valley region. OVB has a full bar and their featured libations include Tom’s Ultimate Margarita and Blueberry Lemon Drops.
The Wine Cave (2427 Honolulu) is going to be open until 1:00 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. Owner Scott says to pick your favorite year and dress up accordingly. They will be playing iPod tunes and offering cab service if needed. Other late night choices include Avignone’s and Fat Dog Pub.
We wish all of you a safe and Happy New Year and thank you for supporting the small stores of Montrose.
