Assisteens Spread Holiday Cheer to Families in Need

ALG Assisteens gathered at their local Target in December with the goal of bringing holiday joy to families in need.

On Dec. 8, 56 Assisteens gathered at their local Target with one goal in mind: to bring holiday joy to families in need. The Assisteens is an auxiliary of Assistance League Glendale (ALG) and is made up of a group of young dedicated teens interested in providing services to the needy. Partnering with Ascencia, a non-profit organization dedicated to lifting individuals and families out of homelessness, the Assisteens participated in the Adopt-A-Family program, making this holiday season brighter for nine local families.

The Assisteens received a detailed family profile, which included information about the family for whom they would shop. This allowed them to carefully select gifts that would best suit each family member’s needs and wishes. From toys and clothing to board games and kitchen gadgets, the Assisteens made sure to shop with thoughtful attention to each family’s unique circumstances.

Once the shopping was completed, everyone returned to the ALG Chapter House in downtown Glendale where a whirlwind of wrapping paper and ribbons filled the room. Volunteers worked together to wrap the presents with care, preparing them for delivery. Some gifts were delivered directly to the families’ homes while others were sent through Ascencia’s network of support.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to bring joy and warmth to local families each year,” said Betsy Savant, ALG Assisteens coordinator. “This has been a tradition for over 10 years, and we will continue to carry out this mission in the years to come. It’s a privilege to make a positive impact in the lives of those who need it most.”

The Assisteens’ commitment to serving their community through this annual initiative is a testament to the power of giving and the difference one group can make in the lives of others.
