The girls of Girl Scout Troop 3481 from La Crescenta showed their commitment of service to their community by donating $1,400 to the Pasadena Community Foundation’s Eaton Fire Relief & Recovery Fund. The girls earned the money by
selling over 1,400 boxes of cookies over several years. As seniors at Crescenta Valley High School, they are nearing the end of their time together as a Troop and needed to decide what to do with the remaining funds in their Troop account. They could have planned a fun trip or exciting outing but felt instead that they wanted to find a way to help the victims of the devastating Eaton Fire. Since Altadena is close to La Crescenta several of the girls have friends who lost their homes.
The Troop has participated in many fun adventures during their 11 years together including horseback riding, camping, geocaching, tadpole hunting, kayaking and sailing, plus participating in a beach day, spelling bee, tasting bee, Montrose Christmas Parade, volcano chemistry, archery and, of course, cookie sales. They formed a FIRST LEGO League robotics team and in 2019 won the Los Angeles regional championship tournament earning an invitation to the world championship.
The Pasadena Community Foundation has raised over $19 million for the Eaton Fire Relief & Recovery Fund and disbursed more than $2 million to help people impacted by the fire. Pasadena Community Foundation was established in 1953 and works with individuals, families and organizations to establish philanthropic funds, create and build endowment funds, and distribute charitable gifts to non-profit organizations in Pasadena and across the country.
