On Saturday, Oct. 12, the Crescenta Valley Town Council (CVTC) is holding its annual pancake breakfast at St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church, 2563 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta (at the corner of Rosemont Avenue).

The fundraising event has been held for over 10 years and funds raised help support the Council’s scholarship program and youth council.

“The CVTC breakfast plays a vital role in supporting our community’s future by providing scholarships to local students at the end of the [school] year. This event not only brings everyone together for a delightful morning filled with delicious pancakes but also helps us invest in the education and aspirations of our youth,” said Frida Baghdassarian, CVTC president. “By supporting their academic journey, we contribute to nurturing the next generation of leaders and community members, ensuring a brighter future for all.”

CVTC is the liaison between local residents and the office of the fifth district supervisor, currently Kathryn Barger. The members of the CVTC are elected by registered voters within the local unincorporated area. The Council has upcoming elections in November and is still looking for candidates. The election will be held on Nov. 8 and 9. There are six seats open; three regular seats each for three-year terms and three alternate seats each for a one-year term. Applications must be returned and/or postmarked by Oct. 8.

CVTC members take their responsibility as county liaison seriously as they hear from community members on a variety of issues.

“The Crescenta Valley Town Council has recently taken steps to engage with the community and address key issues. As part of our outreach efforts, we focus on addressing the concerns raised by residents and responding to what they want us to prioritize. We hosted a community forum, organized by Streets and Transportation Committee member Dede Mueller, which centered on school traffic concerns. This event included participation by the California Highway Patrol, (the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept.], and representatives from Glendale Unified School District. Additionally, our Outreach Committee, composed of Kerri Braütigam and I, has actively organized community events. We held a town hall meeting to discuss the changing landscape of Crescenta Valley. This event featured a panel of locally elected representatives, including members from Senator Portantino’s office and Assemblymember Laura Friedman’s office,” Baghdassarian said.

She invites community members who live within the unincorporated area of LA County – La Crescenta-Montrose to fill out an application to serve on the CVTC.

“As someone who has grown up in this community and has been a long-term resident, I truly believe it is both a privilege and a responsibility to give back. The Crescenta Valley Town Council is essential in shaping our community’s future and I encourage everyone to step up and get involved. Remember: actions speak louder than words; if you want to see positive change, it’s important to take an active role in making it happen,” she said.

The CVTC Annual Pancake Breakfast is on Oct. 12 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. The event is held at St. Luke’s of the Mountains, 2563 Foothill Blvd. Parking can be accessed off Cross Street, behind the church.
