On Oct. 26, the Glendale Unified School District LEGO robotics scrimmage was co-hosted by Cerritos Elementary School and Crescenta Valley High School Falkon robotics. The scrimmage provided teams across the GUSD to learn about robotics and compete in FIRST LEGO League (FLL).

Sixteen 16 LEGO robotics teams (grades 4-8) competed featuring about 66 students participating from Cerritos Elementary, Wilson Middle, Rosemont Middle, Mountain Avenue Elementary, Monte Vista Elementary Lincoln Elementary, Dunsmore Elementary, Valley View Elementary, La Crescenta Elementary, Glenoaks Elementary and Fremont Elementary school.

Participating teams played three rounds each of the FLL challenge robot game. The season theme was “Submerged.” Additionally, teams presented to a panel of volunteer judges as part of the FLL Innovation Challenge, in which the students must research a problem related to oceans and develop creative solutions.

Special thanks are extended to host Cerritos Elementary and in particular Principal Dr. Diana Hernandez, Robotics Coach Peter Ayala and Custodian Elmer. Not only did Cerritos share its space, it provided four fields and jumped into the FLL robot game with us.

Glendale Educational Foundation (GEF supported the Oct. 26 scrimmage and the initial support for Cerritos Elementary School to compete with FIRST LEGO League.
