SPECIAL TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR THE 2018 PASADENA SHOWCASE HOUSE
The Pasadena Showcase House of Design is offering a variety of packages for those who want to see the 2018 Showcase House in a unique way. Whether attendees want to avoid the lines or personally meet the designers, this year there are three special packages from which to choose that range from $75 to $500.
This year, Showcase will be visiting a 1915 Mediterranean home designed by architect Reginald Johnson. The stately exterior belies the cool contemporary vibe within. It is being restored and updated by prominent interior and landscape designers using the latest color trends, design concepts and products. With beautiful verandas, gardens, and unique living spaces, this home is perfectly primed for California living.
Regular tickets go on sale in early February and will be available online at pasadenashowcase.org or by calling (714) 442-3872. The 2018 Pasadena Showcase House of Design will be open to the public April 22 – May 20.

50PLUS PROGRAM AT DIGNITY
Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital and Regal Medical Group have partnered to co-sponsor a strength training and Shao Chi/yoga class. This is a two-part exercise program on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Those members of 50plus are welcome to join one or both sessions. The first class will begin with an aerobic style warm up followed by strength training. This full body workout will include the use of resistance bands, exercise balls, tubing, body weight and tai chi sticks. Regal Medical Group will supply all equipment.
After a break, the class will shift to the modern approach to Tai Chi-Shao Chi. Chair and standing yoga poses will also be incorporated in the second class.

MACKAY ON SIERRA CLUB ROSTER
The Crescenta Valley Sierra Club Group presents Colleen MacKay’s, “Whittier Narrows Nature Center” on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.
MacKay, who presides at the Nature Center, will present several of the center’s raptors: the Great Horned Owl “Professor Woody Owlbert,” the red-tailed hawk “Naomi,” and barn owl “Sora.”
She will bring native pelts and will discuss secondary poisoning and threats facing birds of prey in Southern California. She will also talk of the potential effects of the latest fires on local wildlife and how a community can help.
The program follows news of conservation and outings. This is a free event and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.

CAFETERIA CAMERA GIRLS ON BOLTON HALL ROSTER
Bolton Hall next presents “The Diary of Vilma” on Saturday, Jan. 13. “The Diary of Vilma” is the story of one LA’s Clifton’s Cafeteria Camera Girls. Vilma’s daughters, Miriam and Victoria, recently discovered their mother’s diaries and hundreds of her original photos and will tell the story of the little known Clifton’s photo studio and Vilma’s success as a Camera Girl.
All are invited at at 1 p.m. at Bolton Hall for its first presentation of the New Year.

ART OUT OF TRASH
Cathy Hrenda, resident of Adams Hill, composes artworks from found objects and trash. Since 2015 she has designed and installed a holiday-inspired work in the landmark Richfield Gas Station in the Adams Square Mini-Park with help from the surrounding community. These community projects have been carried out in coordination with the City of Glendale Community Parks and Services Dept.
This year the installation, on view through Jan. 13, is composed almost entirely of trash. Many of the constituent parts were roadside trash gathered on walks Hrenda took in and around Glendale. The piece, entitled “We’re All In The Same Boat,” consists of a six-foot sea serpent covered in bottle caps and other plastic throw-aways. He is accompanied by a man sitting in a rowboat towing a patio umbrella frame decorated with recycled cardboard and plastic bottle ornaments. Students from John Muir Elementary School painted cardboard fish that swim around the boat and ornaments were completed by members of the community in the Adams Square Mini Park.

RACHMANINOFF ON MUSIQUES ROSTER
The next presentation of Salon de Musiques is on Jan. 14 and features the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff. The concert will be performed by Ambroise Aubrun, violin,
Peter Myers, cello, and Vijay Venkatesh, piano.
An informal Q&A with the artists will follow the performance and a gourmet high tea buffet provided by Patina with French champagne will be served.

NOON CONCERTS OPEN TO PUBLIC

LOCAL YOGA CLASS
Gentle/level one yoga classes continue on Friday mornings at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s of the Mountains Church.
This class will improve joint mobility, flexibility, muscle strength and balance and will include some restorative yoga poses to help the body heal its own aches and pains by engaging the parasympathetic system. The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m. This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays.
