KIWANIS CLUB MEETING HOSTS LANZAFAME

On Feb. 14, the Kiwanis Club of Glendale will present Philip Lanzafame from the

LOCAL YOGA CLASS

Gentle/level one yoga classes for people over 50 meet twice a week at The Center for Spiritual Living on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. and Friday at 10:30 a.m.

This class focuses on improved joint mobility, flexibility, muscle strength and balance and will include some restorative yoga poses to help the body heal its own aches and pains by engaging the parasympathetic system. Sessions will be 75 minutes. Instructor is experienced in many forms of yoga.

BRAND ASSOCIATES 2020 MUSIC SERIES

The Brand Associates 2020 Music Series will consist of six concerts taking place in the Brand Library Recital Hall through April 4. The concerts are on Saturday afternoons at 2 p.m. The series presents top chamber music groups from Southern California and beyond. The concerts are sponsored by the Brand Associates. A reception will follow each concert with an opportunity to meet the artists.

On Feb. 15, violinist YuEun Kim and pianist Sung Chang, both Southern California-based musicians with significant international careers, will be performing. INFO ON NEW VOTING SYSTEM AT DEMO CLUB MEETING

A representative from the LA County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office will explain the new Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) at the meeting
of the Cañada Crescenta Democratic Club on Sunday, Feb. 16 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living, 4845 Dunsmore Ave., La Crescenta. There
will also be a demonstration of the
Ballot Marking Device (BMD).

Also on the agenda will be a few Superior Court judge candidates who could not attend the last meeting, a representative for LA County District Attorney candidate Susan Rossi and a speaker advocating the “Schools & Communities First” initiative.

Adam Goodman, a regional co-chair of J Street U, will present a resolution “supporting an Israeli-Palestinian two-state solution and opposing the occupation, settlement expansion, and unilateral annexation of territory in the West Bank.” Another resolution in recognition of the Armenian Genocide will be presented by Susan Mastrodemos. Both resolutions seek member approval votes.

MSR TEAM AT LCWC

On Monday, Feb. 17, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the LCWC holds its meeting for the Evening Section (doors open at 6:30 p.m. for social time). FREE WEEKLY LECTURE ON TOXINS

The Church of Scientology Mission of the Foothills is offering a free lecture every Tuesday night in February at 7 p.m. explaining the purification program, a detoxification program that helps eliminate drugs, toxins and

STRIKES FOR KIDS

Strikes For Kids is hosting the SFK LA Bowling Classic on Sunday, Feb. 23 from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Lucky Strike LA Live at 800 W. Olympic Blvd. Los Angeles. ARBOR DAY 2020

Arbor Day 2020 is being celebrated at Casa Adobe de San Rafael Park, 1330 Dorothy Drive in Glendale on Tuesday, March 3 at 10 a.m. If it rains, festivities move to the Glendale Civic Auditorium, lower level, 1401 N. Verdugo Road. All are invited to purchase a tree for Arbor Day! After the last few years of intense drought and tree loss, contributions are more important than ever. Twenty-four inch box size trees are available for $150. There is also the option of supporting trees throughout the city for a suggested donation of $75. ace/121 PRESENTS ‘WHAT SHE SAID’

Throughout time and across all cultures women have held the role of prophet, oracle, seer, and diviner. Their stories have warned where society was heading. In exchange for their wisdom they have been banned and burned, but also revered and channeled.

The exhibition “What She Said” includes 2D, 3D and performance art, as well as free public programming. The show places focus on feminist strategies that address current dystopian reality. “What She Said,” starts with the premise that extreme circumstances create fertile ground for visionary speculation. The artwork in the show addresses the way an oracular vision speaks to society today in a digital culture, integrating gazes, voices, and experiences.

The exhibit continues through March 13. Presented by ace/121 Gallery & The Association of Hysteric Curators.

ACCESS: A CENTURY AFTER WOMEN’S RIGHT TO VOTE

2020 marks the centennial of women’s suffrage, a milestone in U.S. history when women succeeded in gaining access to the political process with the right to vote.

The latest exhibit at ReflectSpace gallery at the Glendale Central Library, Access: A Century After Women’s Right to Vote, examines the past 100 years of women’s rights through the work of several contemporary women artists, and considers the role of women today and their access to positions of power.

In partnership with the Glendale Commission on the Status of Women, Access will be on exhibit through March 15. Artists in the exhibition include Kim Abeles, April Bey, Joey Forsyte, Erika Rothenberg and the Las Fotos Project.

The Glendale Arts and Culture Commission invites both new and established artists and performance groups of three or more performers to apply for a spot in its 2020 performance series. TUJUNGA’S MID-CENTURY MODERN HOMES

Little Landers Historical Society invites visitors to view a recently installed temporary exhibit at Bolton Hall Museum featuring mid-century modern homes. The exhibit presents the innovative residential architecture of mid-century Tujunga, and pays tribute to a few of the internationally renowned architects who designed and built cutting-edge dwellings in the area during the Atomic Age.

World-class architects Pierre Koenig, Richard Neutra and Eugene Weston III – who were responsible for introducing radical new ideas in floor plan, materials and energy-efficiency through their work for local clients – are featured in the exhibit. Their experimental designs influenced countless imitators, among them, Victor Sease, local developer of Tujunga’s Descanso Tract and Manzanita Slope Development, two of the largest, mostly intact modernist housing developments in Tujunga.

The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.

All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS

The Diabetes Care Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center invites the community to a free diabetes community education class held every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital (Committee Room A).
