The Community Center of La Canada Flintridge is offering a mosaic workshop on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. continuing through March 7.
The course offers a foundation from which participants can continue to design and make mosaics at home. The cost is $120 per participant.

THEODORE PAYNE ART GALLERY HOSTS EXHIBIT
The Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants, Inc. is hosting an art exhibit featuring the work of more than 25 artists inspired by the native flora, fauna and the natural landscape found at Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants. The media they utilize include paintings, poems, photography, baskets, gourds, ceramics, watercolors and drawings.
Hung salon-style, the exhibition is one of extraordinary creativity – a survey of the varied styles and mediums in which artists are working today.
This exhibition is sponsored by the Theodore Payne Arts Council and continues through March 24. The Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants, Inc., is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping others discover the beauty of California native plants.

FREE TAX PREPARATION
Residents can receive free tax preparation under the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program provided through AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, a tax-exempt charity of AARP. Membership in AARP is not required.
Free tax preparation can be obtained at La Crescenta County Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. (corner of La Crescenta Avenue) through Friday, April 13. The hours are Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Taxpayers will be served on a “first-come-first-served” basis; no advanced reservations are available. Enter from the upper level parking lot.

Y OFFERS SENIOR SUPPORT EVENTS
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA is hosting several events and support groups for seniors during the month of February.
Feb. 17 – The Socal Movement Disorder Society will be hosting another Parkinson’s support group at the Y at 11 a.m. There will be a special guest presenter at this meeting. The Parkinson’s Support Group meets monthly at the Y and is free for the community.
Feb. 22 – The Neuropathy Support Group will be meeting at the Y at 1 p.m. There will be a special guest presenter at this meeting. This group meets monthly and is free for the community.

CPR CLASSES AT VERDUGO HILLS HOSPITAL
Verdugo Hills Hospital (VHH) offers CPR training classes to community members and healthcare providers. VHH also offers Heartsaver – Automated External Defibrillator (AED) classes. These classes provide instruction for CPR skills, including adult/child one-person rescue, adult/child choking maneuvers and adult/child AED. Both Healthcare Provider new and renewal classes are also offered, as well as Infant CPR and CPR Instructor training.
Upcoming Heartsaver CPR classes will be held tonight, Feb. 16 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Infant CPR classes are offered twice a month and cover from birth to one year of age. Classes are held on a Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and on a Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 pm. The fee is $30 per person.

SPECIAL MUSIC AT VIVA
Charles “Keep A-Knockin’’’ Connor, original drummer for Little Richard, Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame Inductee, author, speaker and media personality, will play a set of songs with a group of musicians at the Viva Cantina Restaurant on Sunday, Feb. 19 at approximately 6:30 pm. This special event marks the second anniversary of “The Mess Around Show,” presented by music writer Jonny Whitesides and featuring performances by local music bands.

KRAMER TO SPEAK ON ‘LINKEDIN’
On Monday, Feb. 20, local Linkedin expert and corporate copywriter Pat Kramer will teach attendees of the California Society of CPAs, Pasadena chapter how to use top social media site Linkedin to share ideas, meet potential clients and to promote their firms. Additionally, CalCPA members will learn about the different tools Linkedin provides users at no cost and gain the ability to use it effectively to promote their brand. “KING & QUEEN OF HEARTS” CELBRATES 17 YEARS
In honor of National Heart Month, the Heart Center at Glendale Memorial celebrates cardiac patients, their families, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and the community by honoring the king and queen of hearts for 2012.
This event will include several free screenings, informative presentations by Heart Center physicians, as well as low-fat tasty foods. The event will culminate in the crowing of the King and Queen of Hearts.
The event takes place on Thursday, Feb. 23 with screenings from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the presentation and crowning of the king and queen of hearts from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
