TRACEY CLEANITS AT FLINTRIDGE BOOKSTORE
Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse hosts a talk and signing on Friday evening, April 7 at 7 p.m. for local author and marriage and family therapist Tracey Cleantis. Her book, “An Invitation to Self-Care: Why Learning to Nurture Yourself is the Key to the Life You Have Always Wanted!” shows readers how to consider self-care across relationships, finances, and spiritual and professional life. Cleantis shares personal observations, exercises, interviews and more with the goal of positively changing lives.
A day of indulgence at a spa or at home on the couch might help us unwind and feel temporarily renewed, but is that all there is to self-care? Cleantis’ follow-up to her groundbreaking debut book “The Next Happy” demonstrates why real self-care is more than routine self-indulgence. Feelings of fulfillment and joy are all influenced by your self-care mind-set. Her approach helps readers realize that by accepting who they are, what is needed, and how those needs evolve over time, everyone can create space for self-care’s transformational magic.
Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse is located at 1010 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge, at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Angeles Crest Highway. For more information, call (818) 790-0717.

To accomplish this she took an off-trail hike to Whale Peak, a bus trip and backpacking in Yosemite, and a 50-mile backpacking trip with her son from Onion Valley to Horseshoe Meadows in the Eastern Sierras.
Buehler will bring the audience along to share some of the high points from her experiences, including the view from the top of Forester Pass at elevation 13,153.
The program begins following news of conservation and outings. This a free program and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served. Please contact Pat Kramer at (818) 468-7278 for further program information.

CLINTON AT HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley presents Edmond J. Clinton III discussing and signing “Clifton’s and Clifford Clinton: A Cafeteria and a Crusader” at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 17 at the Center for Spiritual Living-La Crescenta.
“Clifton’s Cafeteria” might just be the most famous restaurant in the history of L.A. Not just because of the movie stars who showed up (there were plenty), but because real people ate there. Millions of them since 1931. Nobody forgot that if a hungry person couldn’t pay, that was okay.
The Golden Rule: That’s what the place was all about. So everybody came. Clifford Clinton owned Clifton’s – all of them – and everything he did was about doing unto others. Nobody was going hungry on his watch.
And when he saw corruption in his City of Angels, he went after it. He led a campaign to recall the mayor. He cleaned up the town. His story is as good as it gets –straight outta Raymond Chandler, only real – and Clifford Clinton’s never-published story, and more stuff about L.A., won’t be believed.

Kelly’s installation utilizes objects that are mostly older than the 1930s era gas station itself and the objects are meant to evoke personal memories. Kelly will ask reception attendees of all ages to write their dreams and wishes on pieces of paper and she will place them in small bottles as part of the exhibition – a tactile approach to personal expression serving as an antidote to the many electronic devices we now use to communicate.

‘MAN MADE’ COMING TO BRAND LIBRARY
Brand Library & Art Center presents Man Made, an exhibition that explores the urban ecology of our built environment through the distinctive artwork of seven women: Jacqueline Bell Johnson, Anita Bunn, Chelsea Dean, Jennifer Gunlock, Jenene Nagy, Michelle Robinson and Sinziana Velicescu. Each artist, through her own unique practice, honors the physical act of creation and expands the language of environmental engagement. By exploring different ways of seeing, representing and connecting ubiquitous forms, shapes and objects in our surroundings, the artist abstracts reality, resulting in beautiful, anomalous truths, seemingly prophetic vistas, and meticulously rendered constructions.
The exhibition will be on view through May 6.
