GLENDALE KIWANIS 

The Kiwanis Club of Glendale meets on Fridays at noon. On April 25 Club member Pat Liddell will speak on the CalNevHa (CNH) children’s program.

The cost to attend Friday meetings, which includes lunch and program, is $25. All are welcome. 

The Club meets Friday afternoons at the Elks Lodge, 120 E. Colorado St. in Glendale.

FRIENDS OF ROCKHAVEN PRESENTS ‘ART ON THE ROCKS’

The Friends of Rockhaven presents “Art on the Rocks,” a women’s arts and crafts fair, on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Luke’s of the Mountains, 2563 Foothill Blvd.

ANGEL GALA PRESENTED BY CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY

Cancer Support Community Greater San Gabriel Valley (Cancer Support Community) announced is having its 35th annual Angel Gala on Saturday, April 26 at The Langham Hotel Pasadena. This year’s gala theme “Rise Together” is a celebration of unity and collective strength.

Proceeds from the Angel Gala will support Cancer Support Community’s free programs, which include support groups, educational workshops, healthy lifestyle classes and one-on-one counseling designed to improve the quality of life for families affected by cancer.

HOMETOWN COUNTRY FAIR COMING UP

On Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual Hometown Country Fair at CV Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave.

The family-friendly event includes classic cars on display, petting zoo, vendor and information booths, pie-eating contest, inflatables and more! Free to attend.

OPH SPEARHEADS BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT

OPH (Operation Project H.O.P.E.) will be having a beautification project at Melvin Avenue Elementary SchooL, 7700 Melvin Ave. in Reseda on Saturday, April 26. This family friendly event includes lunch for the volunteers; water will be available all day.

ARTWALK RETURNS MAY 3 & 4

Brewery Artwalk is holding its spring Artwalk on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with two days of open studios on Main Street in Lincoln Heights, just east of the LA River. There will be a beer garden with a menu of on-the-go food plus food trucks on Moulton and Avenue 21. Free parking at the UPS facility on Moulton Avenue.

RENAISSANCE PLEASURE FAIRE RETURNS TO SOCAL

The world’s original Renaissance Pleasure Faire returns to Southern California at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale, Saturdays and Sundays through May 18. Tickets are $44 for adults and $22 for children aged 5-12. Children aged 4 and under are always admitted at no charge.

BINGO FEVER AT USC-VHH

The USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation – Women’s Council is holding a bingo event tonight, April 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Refreshments will be served; alcoholic beverage are $5. FCSF HOLDING SCHOLARSHIP AND VOLUNTEER CEREMONY

On Sunday, April 27, the Foothills Community Scholarship Foundation of LCF, Inc., will hold its 61st Annual FCSF Scholarship Awards Ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive in LCF. At the event, FCSF will also honor the 2025 Distinguished Educator Award recipient Joann Merrick and the 2025 Distinguished Volunteer Awardee Becky Gelhaar.

LA COUNTY FAIR ‘ART UNLEASHED!’ IS ON MAY 2-26

CCLCF EVENTS

The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge hosts a variety of events for the community. Among them are:

  • Sponsorships are now available for the enter’s cornhole tournament. To be a sponsor email executive director Betsy Ferguson at betsy@cclcf.org. Deadline to sponsor is today, April 24. Sign up now to take part in the cornhole tournament sponsored by CCLCF.
  • Foothills Community Choir is open to all ages and is from May 6 to Dec. 13. Practices are on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Open to all.
  • Family bingo night and ice cream sundae bar, part of the LCF Chamber Fiesta Days celebration, is on Saturday, May 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for kids. Visit cclcc.org/events for more information.
  • Jazz Cabaret Night, featuring The Swing Tones, is on Saturday, June 21 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person, which includes drinks and dessert. 
  • Summer Theatre Camp is a four week summer camp that ends with a performance on July 12. Camp is from June 16 – July 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., M-F. “Seussical Jr.” will be performed by children from ages 10-13. Registration is open.

DANCING AS EXERCISE

Dancing As Exercise is a free ongoing weekly event sponsored by the Los Angeles County Park program for seniors (50 plus) as a form of staying healthy.

There is live music every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Park’s building at 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta. Light refreshments and water are provided along with socialization and information about other park activities.

Dancing, per se, is not required; single persons are welcome.

CANASTA IS CALLING

Canasta – an activity that will brighten your day with fun and relaxation. Those who have not played before – don’t worry; you will be taught! Come on Tuesday afternoons to play canasta from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Montrose Library, 2465 Honolulu Ave. in Montrose (818) 548-2048.

CELEBRATE NATIONAL STAMP COLLECTING MONTH 

Community members are invited to join the Glendale/La Crescenta Stamp Club, a community of stamp enthusiasts that meets regularly to share their passion for this timeless hobby.

The Glendale/La Crescenta Stamp Club meets every third Tuesday at the LA County Library – La Crescenta located at the corner of La Crescenta Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, 2809 Foothill Blvd., at 7 p.m. in the second floor community room.

FRITZ COLEMAN’S SHOW EXTENDS AT THE EL PORTAL 

“Unassisted Residency,” the live comedy performance by TV personality Fritz Coleman that features special guests, has been extended at the El Portal Theatre in the Monroe Forum, 5269 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood. 

The show is on Sunday at 3 p.m. on April 27. Admission is $40 for general admission; $50 for cocktail table seating.

WINDSONG PLAYERS CHAMBER ENSEMBLE TO PERFORM

Windsong Players Chamber Ensemble will perform All the Colors of Spring at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 12227 Balboa Blvd. in Granada Hills on Saturday, May 3 at 4 pm. The performers are from La Cañada, Glendale and Sunland; they will play pieces by Bach, Kreisler, Ravel, Donizetti, Scott Joplan and the world premiere of  “Pirouette” for flute and piano by local resident composer/pianist Dan West. In addition there will be a short reading of poetry by Pamela Shea. 

Windsong Players has been performing around the Southland since 2015. The performers are Alice Pero, flute, Svetlana Oganesian, violin, Veronica Bell, soprano and Dan West, piano. Alice Pero, flutist, and 10 poet laureates of Sunland-Tujunga formed the group. She has commissioned a number of original works for chamber ensemble by internationally known composer Carol Worthey and also by Ruben Aghiyan,

VERDUGO MOUNTAINS 10K TRAIL RUN & HIKE

The Verdugo Mountains 10K Trail Run & Hike takes place at Brand Park on May 4 from 8 a.m. to noon.

SUNLAND-TUJUNGA HISTORIC HOME TOUR

The long-awaited S-T Historic Home tour, conducted by Little Landers Historical Society, is on May 10 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Some amazing historical sites will be open for guests including a fort, a castle, a sanctuary, a pioneer rock home and the S-T very own pioneer cemetery will be open to visitors.

Volunteers are needed to help us with preparations and volunteer docents and support team members will greet and assist visitors at each location on tour day. Training will be provided and each volunteer will receive a pair of tickets for the tour. Tour day volunteers will be assigned a morning or afternoon shift and will be able to take the tour when “off duty.”

WORKSHOP OFFERED AT STONE BARN NATURE CENTER

The Stone Barn Nature Center at Deukmejian Wilderness Park in La Crescenta/Glendale is having an Intro to Nature Journaling and the 5 Basic Component Skills to Drawing Workshop. The workshops are on May 13 and June 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. These are offered through the Trail and Open Space Program.

Nature Journaling is the sweet spot between art, science, observation and curiosity. Presenting a new volunteer-led program, this adult workshop is an introduction to the basics of nature journaling.

HEART & EXCELLENCE LEGACY LUNCHEON 

The YWCA Glendale and Pasadena presents the 28th Annual Heart & Excellence Legacy Luncheon honoring the past board members who have guided the organization for nearly a century.

Proceeds from this event support the YWCA’s programming that provides critical resources for survivors of domestic violence, empowers women, and advances racial justice.

The luncheon is on Thursday, May 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club at 500 Godbey Drive in La Cañada Flintridge.

ACTIVITIES AT SUNLAND SENIOR CENTER

The Sunland Senior Center offers a selection of classes and activities daily. Whether seniors are looking to exercise or dance or are interested in art, theater, or knitting, the Center has something for everyone. Sunland also hosts bingo on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and a movie matinee on the big screen at 1 p.m. on Thursdays; on Mondays and Fridays there is country line dancing from noon-1:30 p.m. The Sunland Senior Center runs programming from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. with a donations-based lunch served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
