RENAISSANCE PLEASURE FAIRE
The original Renaissance Faire returns to Irwindale at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area Saturdays and Sundays now through May 19 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at 15501 E. Arrow Highway in Irwindale. Service animals welcome but no pets allowed. Costume weapons must be sheathed and peace-tied.

DANCING AS EXERCISE
Dancing As Exercise is a free ongoing weekly event sponsored by the Los Angeles County Park program for seniors (50 plus) as a form of staying healthy.
There is live music every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Park’s building at 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta.
Light refreshments and water are provided along with socialization and information about other park activities.
Dancing, per se, is not required; single persons are welcome.

DESCENT INTO HISTORY: FOREST LAWN’S GREAT MAUSOLEUM LECTURE & TOUR
Today, Thursday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at The Little Church of the Flowers – Forest Lawn Glendale, a behind-the-scenes lecture by Dr. James Fishburne, Forest Lawn Museum director, will be presented. “Back In Time: Origins of Great Mausoleum” will be followed by Q&A. Discover the hidden stories and fascinating history behind this iconic resting place.
Then on Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m., there will be a walking tour through the original levels of the Great Mausoleum followed by a wine reception with light refreshments.
Knowledgeable guides will take ticketholders on a walking tour descending through the original lower three levels of the mausoleum and on a journey back in time, unveiling the rich history and hidden artworks along the way. Discover sculptures, stained glass windows, and architectural features in areas unseen by most Forest Lawn visitors. There is also a scavenger hunt.

CCLCF HOSTS UPCOMING FREE EVENTS
Today, Thursday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Covenant Cat Rescue will be hosting Seniors for Seniors cat adoption day at Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge. Low-rate adoption fees.
The one-hour special, “Art Happens Here With John Lithgow,” premieres on PBS Friday, April 26 from 10 – 11 p.m.
John Lithgow shares his passion for arts education by joining students and teachers at four Los Angeles arts organizations, including the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge. Tune in as he joins local teens ceramics class and has fun learning to make his first ceramic pot.
On Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28, CCLCF is having auditions for “Mean Girls – High School Version” directed by Caren Saiet. Auditions are by appointment only. Casting for singers/dancers, 14-18 years old. The performances are June 28 – 30.

Stagecraft interns are sought for the summer production of “Mean Girls – High School Version.” Interns will build sets and props for the show.

NARCAN TRAINING/DISTRIBUTION + PRESCRIPTION OPIOID TAKE BACK EVENT
CHLA Health Outcomes and Policy Effects (HOPE) lab is hosting a Narcan Training/Distribution + Prescription Opioid Take Back Event in partnership with USC Institute for Addiction Science and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. The event will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at La Cañada High School, 4463 Oak Grove Drive in La Cañada Flintridge.
Take Back Day is a coordinated day across the U.S. where the DEA partners with local communities to collect unneeded medications (pills, tablets, capsules). Safe disposal of unneeded medications is key to preventing substance misuse, especially among adolescent populations. The first 50 visitors will also get a free dose of Naloxone (Narcan) – a medication used to treat opioid overdose. Please join us for this important community event!

The Pasadena Society of Artists’ 99th Annual Juried Exhibition takes place at Whites Fine Art Gallery, 2414 Honolulu Ave. in Montrose through Saturday, April 27.

CALTECH JAZZ BAND PRESENTS ANNUAL JAZZ FESTIVAL
The Caltech Jazz Band presents the annual jazz festival featuring three groups: The Caltech Jazz Band, the Kirsten Edkins Group and the Eva Scow Collective. This outdoor concert has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 27 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the Hameetman Patio. The festival is outside with limited seating. Please bring a folding chair, blankets and picnic items. Parking is free.
The Caltech Jazz Band, directed by Barb Catlin, will open the festival with an array of big band music, including two new works from Caltech alum Dr. Les Deutsch and Caltech grad student Phil Kocheril.

Legendary comic Fritz Coleman is performing a series of shows at the El Portal Theatre from his latest solo comedy show “Unassisted Living,” now airing on Tubi.

Bruce Hale will give a presentation of his Adventure Canada cruise from Kangerelussauaq, Greenland to St. John’s, Newfoundland. CHERISH IS THE WORD
Those who know the popular music of the 1960s know the songs of The Association. With multiple, now-classic recordings – “Along Comes Mary,” “Cherish,” “Windy,” “Never My Love” – every song brings back fond memories.
Bolton Hall Museum’s 2nd Saturday Program in May features Russ Giguere, a founding member of The Association and lead singer on “Windy.” He will tell the audience about the band’s career and its local connections to Glendale, Pasadena and La Cañada. His book “Along Comes The Association: Beyond Folk Rock and Three-Piece Suits” is available for purchase after the program.
This event is on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. It will be held at Bolton Hall Museum, Home of Little Landers Historical Society, 10110 Commerce Ave. in Tujunga.

GIFF ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS
The Glendale International Film Festival is now accepting film and screenplay submissions for its 10th anniversary edition. GIFF 2024 is produced and presented by non-profit Glendale Arts and will be held from Sept. 26-Oct. 1.
Filmmakers and screenwriters from all over the world are invited to submit their projects via FilmFreeway at https://filmfreeway.com/GlendaleInternationalFilmFestival. Films, student films, and screenplays will be accepted until the final submissions deadline on July 12. Selected films will be screened during the festival at the Glendale location of the Laemmle Theatres.
This year, GIFF has expanded to 22 submission categories.

ACTIVITIES AT SUNLAND SENIOR CENTER
The Sunland Senior Center offers a selection of classes and activities daily. Whether seniors are looking to exercise or dance or are interested in art, theater, or knitting, the Center has something for everyone. Sunland also hosts bingo on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and a movie matinee on the big screen at 1 p.m. on Thursdays; on Mondays and Fridays there is country line dancing from noon-1:30 p.m. The Sunland Senior Center runs programming from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. with a donations-based lunch served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
