The Kiwanis Club of Glendale meets on Fridays at noon. The speaker on Friday, May 17 is Erica Blodgett, director of Fundraising and Engagement for Healing California.
The cost to attend Friday meetings, which includes lunch and program, is $20. All are welcome.

BENITA BIKE’S DANCEART IN LA CRESCENTA
Benita Bike’s DanceArt, LA’s chamber modern dance company, ends its ’23-’24 season of dance with an outreach dance performance at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd., on Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. This is a free performance and reservations are not required. This performance is supported in part by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Dept. of Arts and Culture and the Friends of the La Crescenta Library. RENAISSANCE PLEASURE FAIRE
The original Renaissance Faire returns to Irwindale at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area Saturdays and Sundays through May 19 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at 15501 E. Arrow Highway in Irwindale. Service animals welcome but no pets allowed. Costume weapons must be sheathed and peace-tied.

CCLCF HOSTS UPCOMING FREE EVENTS
Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge is having a sleep workshop on Saturday, May 18.
There are two classes:
- The class for expecting parents & parents with newborns up to 12 months old is from 10 a.m.-11 a.m.
- The class for parents with toddlers up to 4 years old is from 11:30a.m.-12:30p.m.
Kelly Luculano is a certified pediatric sleep consultant who works with expecting parents, newborns, and toddlers. She helps and guides parents in the world of sleep teaching. Helping parents to learn healthy sleep habits as well as walking parents hand in hand through the journey of their little ones sleep.
A beginner glass beadmaking workshop with Ethan and Amanda Stern is on May 22 – June 12 on Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m.
Limited number of spots are available. The fee is $250 plus a nonrefundable $20 materials fee.

A summer ceramics class is from June 17 to Aug. 10. A variety of classes will be held specializing in adult ceramics, intermediate handbuilding, intermediate wheelthrowing, intro to ceramics and teens ceramics.

On Saturday, May 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. CCLCF is having a family bingo night and ice cream sundae bar (ice cream provided by Handel’s) sponsored by Engel & Völkers/Carrie Grochow. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for kids.

FRITZ COLEMAN RETURNS TO SOLO COMEDY
Legendary comic Fritz Coleman is performing a series of shows at the El Portal Theatre from his latest solo comedy show “Unassisted Living,” now airing on Tubi.
Coleman will be at the El Portal Theater, 5269 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood, on May 26 at 3 p.m. Additional shows have been added on June 23, July 21 and Aug. 18. Tickets are $35 and $45.

DANCING AS EXERCISE
Dancing As Exercise is a free ongoing weekly event sponsored by the Los Angeles County Park program for seniors (50 plus) as a form of staying healthy.
There is live music every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Park’s building at 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta.
Light refreshments and water are provided along with socialization and information about other park activities.
Dancing, per se, is not required; single persons are welcome.

CANCER SUPPORT GROUP HOSTS ANNUAL GALA
Cancer Support Community Greater San Gabriel Valley (Cancer Support Community) announced its 34th annual Angel Gala. This year’s theme is “Dapper Derby Soiree” and will be held on Sunday, May 19 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Santa Anita Park.
The evening includes a VIP race and reception in honor of CSC and honorees Tom and Karen Capehart, followed by a speakeasy cocktail reception, awards presentation, live and silent auctions, a can’t-miss raffle full of unique prizes and dinner and dancing.

GDA/TLC HOSTING OPEN HOUSE
Guide Dogs of America/Tender Loving Canines (GDA/TLC) presents the 2024 open house titled “Happy Tails. Happy Trails.” It is taking place at the GDA/TLC campus in Sylmar on June 8 from 10 a.m. to
3 p.m.
The 2024 open house will provide lots of fun activities for the whole family and will feature a puppy-kissing booth, tours of the GDA/TLC seven-acre campus and a silent auction with gift baskets. Hear success stories from GDA/TLC service dog graduates, meet dogs-in-training, learn about programs/services, and discover how to foster a puppy for the first year of their life.

GIFF ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS
The Glendale International Film Festival is now accepting film and screenplay submissions for its 10th anniversary edition. GIFF 2024 is produced and presented by non-profit Glendale Arts and will be held from Sept. 26-Oct. 1.
Filmmakers and screenwriters from all over the world are invited to submit their projects via FilmFreeway at https://filmfreeway.com/GlendaleInternationalFilmFestival. Films, student films, and screenplays will be accepted until the final submissions deadline on July 12. Selected films will be screened during the festival at the Glendale location of the Laemmle Theatres.
This year, GIFF has expanded to 22 submission categories.

ACTIVITIES AT SUNLAND SENIOR CENTER
The Sunland Senior Center offers a selection of classes and activities daily. Whether seniors are looking to exercise or dance or are interested in art, theater, or knitting, the Center has something for everyone. Sunland also hosts bingo on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and a movie matinee on the big screen at 1 p.m. on Thursdays; on Mondays and Fridays there is country line dancing from noon-1:30 p.m. The Sunland Senior Center runs programming from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. with a donations-based lunch served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
