MEMORIAL DAY PLANS AT FOREST LAWN
Forest Lawn-Glendale is celebrating its Memorial Day festivities on the 96th anniversary of its first Memorial Day Program. The event will be held May 30 beginning at 1 p.m., and will feature a memorial march at the Little Church of the Flowers and proceed to the burial site of a Civil War soldier. Glendale Mayor Laura Friedman will read the Presidential Proclamation while noted Abraham Lincoln impersonator William Peck will read the Gettysburg Address. Civil War Re-enactors from the 100th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry-Company K will provide a musket salute, while a cannon salute will be provided by the Richmond Howitzers. A civil war band, The Band of the California Battalion, will supply patriotic music.
The event is free to the public and provides a unique opportunity to join in honoring all the men and women who have given their lives in defense of their country. QUEST FOR A CAUSE: A FUNDRAISING ADVENTURE
The Salvation Army’s Safe Place Program presents a driving scavenger hunt through Glendale on Saturday, June 4 to benefit services to teens. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Adult Recreation Center, 201 E. Colorado St. The adventure begins at 10 a.m. Teams should have two to four people with at least one licensed driver. Clues are provided at registration. Earn opportunity tickets for every clue solved. The Quest is not a race, so participants don’t need to solve every clue to win.
Lunch is provided after the Quest. The entry fee for adults is $35 and $20 for teens ages 12-18. “CHEFS FOR A CURE” FUNDRAISER
Join the American Cancer Society’s “Chefs For A Cure” Benefit on June 15 at Firenze Osteria of Toluca Lake from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant will provide all the food courtesy of Chef Fabio Viviani, America’s Top Chef and a Season 5 Fan Favorite. Quiet Hair Growing and DD Family Supporters, two teams of the 2011 Sunland/Tujunga Relay for Life, are hosting the event.

SUMMER NIGHT SWING COMING TO AMERICANA
The Glendale Pops Orchestra, led by artistic director and conductor Matt Catingub, hosts Summer Night Swing featuring Patti Austin and Tierney Sutton at the Americana at Brand. Summer Night Swing takes place on Thursday, June 30 at 8 p.m. and is the second of a six-show season.

NOON CONCERTS OPEN TO PUBLIC
Glendale Noon Concerts is a free admission concert series taking place every first and third Wednesday from 12:10-12:40 p.m. in the newly restored chapel and sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Glendale (downtown at Louise & Wilson, no religious affiliation).
On June 1 at 12:10 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. will be a baroque concert by Ergo Musica featuring works by Telemann, Rust, Milandre & Couperin.
The director of Ergo Musica is Adriana Zoppo who will perform on the viola d’amore. Appearing with her will be baroque violist Suzanna Giordano-Gignac.
DOCENTS, VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR AUTRY, DESCANSO, HOSPICE
Companion Hospice is recruiting volunteers for its upcoming training program. Volunteers are needed in the San Gabriel Valley, San Fernando Valley and Simi Valley to relieve tired caregivers for short periods of time or to help with errands and shopping. Assignments will in the volunteer’s geographical area.

TASTINGS HOSTED BY ARC
The Glendale-Crescenta Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding its annual wine, chocolate and cheese tasting. This event offers the opportunity to compare an array of carefully selected wines, cheeses and fine chocolates. In addition, light appetizers will be provided by Chin Chin Catering.
The event on June 23 will be held in the Forest Lawn Museum overlooking the City of Glendale and will also feature “The Art of Artis Lane,” an exhibit by the award-winning sculptor and painter.
Adding to the festivities are a raffle and silent auction of many gift items, spa treatments and entertainment events contributed by local businesses and community members.
Forest Lawn Glendale is providing the venue for the benefit of the Red Cross, and all proceeds will go to the benefit of the Glendale-Crescenta Valley Chapter, furthering its ability to assist the communities of Glendale and the Crescenta Valley in times of unexpected emergencies.
