This ongoing series is for non-musicians and musicians alike and explores the histories of composers and their music. This new series of classes will cover the topic “Popular Music Before the 20th Century (Not Everyone in Vivaldi’s Time Was Listening to Concertos!).”
The series of classes are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday through Aug. 7 at the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church Cultural Hall.

SIDEWALK CPR TRAINING
Today, Thursday, June 7, the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge and USC Verdugo Hospital will host Sidewalk CPR from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. EMTs will be on hand to teach community members hands-only CPR techniques that could save a life. It just takes five minutes to learn how to keep a cardiac arrest victim alive until paramedics arrive.
No appointments are necessary. Everyone who participates will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 Amazon or Ralphs gift card.

QUEER COMES TO GLENDALE
QUEER, a multi-venue exhibit, opens on June 8 with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at both the ace/121 and Abril Books/Roslin Art Gallery venues with an after-party at Gauchos Village, 135 N. Maryland Ave. in Glendale.
QUEER is an endeavor to not only look at the evolution of a word and a culture, but to do so in what will be Glendale’s first ever LGBTQ-based art exhibit and gay pride event.
On June 28 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., ace/121 Gallery and Homo-Centric will present an evening of readings revolving around the paragraphs that examine the evolution of a word and how LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ alike identify with it today.

Nina Simone shared truth, power, anger, and love with the world through her gifts. Starting out with classical piano training, Simone had a deeply soulful style that expressed both personal and social pain. The film shows her conversations with Martin Luther King Jr. and their differing approaches to social change. The screening complements the showing of James Baldwin’s “I Am Not Your Negro.”

THE PIONEERS OF EAGLE ROCK
Bolton Hall Museum’s Second Saturday program on June 9 at 1 p.m. tells the early history of the neighboring community of Eagle Rock. Today Eagle Rock is one of Los Angeles’ most distinctive neighborhoods. Program speakers are Eagle Rock historians and authors Eric Warren and Frank Parello. This program is held at Bolton Hall Museum and is free and open to the public; everyone is welcome.

GINNY SAND TO SPEAK AT LCGOP WOMEN

The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Verdugo Hills has opened its acoustically outstanding 100-seat sanctuary to LA folk, alt-country, and acoustic musicians as well as authors, poets, and comedians for the monthly Verdugo HUUT. NCL HOSTING BLOOD DRIVE

The Sunland Tujunga Shadow Hills Rotary Club is again hosting the Sunland Tujunga 4th of July Parade. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4 on Foothill Boulevard at Summitrose Street. The parade will run down Foothill Boulevard to Sunland Boulevard, and is free of charge for both participants and spectators.

CHASING HISTORY AT BOLTON HALL
On Saturday, July 14 at 2:30 p.m., Tujunga’s Bolton Hall Museum and Little Landers Historical Society invite everyone to join in on a special event and a fun way to learn more about local history. “Chasing History” is a fundraiser for Bolton Hall Museum to help the Museum and its volunteers continue providing free historical public programs and exhibits. Little Landers Historical Society has identified and created clues for 16 of the most interesting and intriguing foothill historical sites from Lake View Terrace to La Crescenta. Participants will register a vehicle for the event and ask friends and family members to ride along as part of their team. Using the clues provided, each team will find and photograph as many locations as possible in the time allotted.
Everyone will start the quest at Bolton Hall Museum at 2:30 p.m. and will gather at McGroarty Arts Center by 6 p.m. for prize awards, photo viewing and sharing tales of the day’s adventures. A Mexican dinner, drinks and dessert will be available for purchase. A vehicle registration fee of $40 includes clues to all 16 locations. For a $75 vehicle registration, actual directions to each location will be provided.

LOCAL YOGA CLASS

NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS
The Diabetes Care Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center invites the community to a free diabetes community education class held every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital (Committee Room A).

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m. This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
