AMERICANA CELEBRATED AT LACAN PRES
La Cañada Presbyterian Church is hosting a 50-piece orchestra and 60-voice choir in the presentation of “Americana,” a celebration of America, on Sunday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Presented as part of the church’s acclaimed Ovations Arts Series, “Americana” will feature traditional selections, including Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America,” sung by alto soloist Diane Wallace; “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”; a stirring arrangement of “America the Beautiful” by Carmen Dragon, the late conductor of the Glendale Symphony; and a spectacular rendition of John Philip Sousa’s original “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Emcee for the evening will be Tyler Wright, president and CEO of the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA. Per tradition, he will provide inspirational commentary and recite patriotic poems between the musical selections.

LCCRS HAVING DINE OUT NIGHT
A dine out fundraiser benefitting La Crescenta Center for Spiritual Living is taking place on Thursday, June 30 from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Joselito’s Mexican Restaurant in Tujunga.
Diners can put their receipt in the box provided at the restaurant and Joselito’s will donate 15% of the day’s receipts to the Center for Spiritual Living.

CASINO NIGHT TO BENEFIT LCF COMMUNITY CENTER
A Casino Night fundraiser hosted by the Community Center of LCF is taking place on Saturday, July 9 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Games include a poker tournament (with designated prize), blackjack, craps, roulette, spin to win and other games as part of the evening. Los Gringos Locos will provide the “all you can eat and drink” taco truck with margaritas. Also donated by local businesses will be beer, soft drinks, fruit salads and desserts. Guests will have the chance to take home gifts bought with their winning tickets from the casino games. Tickets for the evening are $50.

CELEBRITY AND HISTORICAL MEMORABILIA, ART AUCTION

HISTORICAL SOCIETY PARTICIPATES IN BLUE STAR MUSEUM PROJECT
Monday, May 30 was the launch of the nationwide Blue Star Museum Project. This project is a partnership among more than 1300 museums, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the Blue Star Families, an organization that supports active duty military families. This NEA project recognizes and thanks our military families for all they are doing for our country and begins young people on the path to becoming lifelong museum goers. In 2010, the inaugural year for the project, more than 300,000 military family members visited the Blue Star Project partner museums. Bolton Hall Museum is proud to join the project this year. Throughout the summer the museum exhibit and events will pay tribute to the long history of military service and wartime efforts in Sunland-Tujunga.
The museum will have special hours on Monday, July 4 and will be open from noon until 3 p.m. There will be an opportunity to visit with some of the “historical characters” from the 4th of July parade.
SUMMER NIGHT SWING COMING TO AMERICANA
The Glendale Pops Orchestra, led by artistic director and conductor Matt Catingub, hosts Summer Night Swing featuring Patti Austin and Tierney Sutton at the Americana at Brand. Summer Night Swing takes place on Thursday, June 30 at 8 p.m. and is the second of a six-show season.

ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Pasadena Child Development Associates and the Armory Center for the Arts will partner this summer to provide a series of art classes adapted for children with special needs. The La Crescenta Library is hosting a free public concert featuring Nativa on Friday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Nativa, an Argentine country-folk counterpart to the urban tango, “folklore” evokes the pure sounds of a music deeply rooted in South American culture. This trio delivers a fresh and vibrant version of a beautiful collection of traditional Argentine songs.

On Saturday, Aug 13 at 1 p.m. the library hosts the Second Annual La Crescenta Library Chili Cook-Off. The library is recruiting contestants for the cook-off. Bring your best recipe and compete with others in the community to be crowned the chili master of La Crescenta. Registration due by Aug. 11.
