PARKS ON CV SIERRA CLUB AGENDA
The Crescenta Valley Sierra Club hosts Robin Parks at its next meeting on Tuesday evening, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library. Parks will present “Mountain Lions 101.”
As a lifelong admirer of the big cats, Parks began doing volunteer work at animal sanctuaries in California and other locations where he first encountered captive mountain lions. This experience led him to the Mountain Lion Foundation (MLF) where he has been a field volunteer. He is very involved in reaching out to law enforcement agencies who are often first responders to mountain lion sightings and incidences. He provides the biology of the animal – aggressive vs. non-aggressive behavior – officer safety procedures, and addresses the myths and misinformation that surround these animals. He will discuss various “shoot/don’t shoot” scenarios and the considerations relative to law enforcement personnel to illustrate that the killing of a wayward mountain lion having wandered into human territory is rarely necessary and often the wrong decision.
The program begins following news of conservation and outings. This is a free event and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served. For further information, contact program chair Wayne Fisher at (818) 353-4181.
