ASID HOSTING HOME TOUR
The American Society of Interior Designers – ASID – is hosting a semi-guided home tour that features three private residences and gardens. DEMO CLUB HEARS PROPOSITION INFO AT MEETING
Robbie Davis, representing the League of Women Voters, will address the Cañada Crescenta Democratic Club on Sunday, Sept. 16, reviewing propositions on the November ballot. The meeting runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Visitor Center of the Lanterman House, 4420 Encinas Ave., La Cañada Flintridge.
Davis will highlight propositions of special interest: Prop 6 on the gas tax, Prop 3 on water projects, Prop 5 on property tax transfers for people 55 and over, and Prop 10 on extending rent control.
Three candidates for different judge positions have also asked to speak and are seeking the members’ endorsement: Patti Hunter, Javier Perez and A. Veronica Sauceda. LA County Sheriff challenger Alex Villanueva will also speak and seek an endorsement.

TELESCOPE TALK AT FLINTRIDGE BOOKSTORE
On Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse hosts a presentation by Mount Wilson trustees Dan Kohne and Tim Thompson and docent Robert Anderson. Their book, “A Temple of Science: The 100-Inch Telescope at Mount Wilson Observatory,” is a retrospective on the 100th anniversary of the 100-inch Hooker Telescope at Mt. Wilson Observatory. The book’s other contributor is Stefanos Polyzoides, editor.
The telescope saw first light on the night of Nov. 1-2, 1917. It was the largest telescope ever built, and remained the largest in the world until 1949. Astronomers Edwin Hubble and Milton Humason used the 100-inch telescope to quite literally discover the entire universe, discover the first observational evidence for an expanding universe, and lay the first observational foundations for the modern concept of big bang cosmology. As a scientific instrument, the 100-inch telescope radically and forever altered the conceptual understanding of the universe in which we live.
Dan Kohne, Stefanos Polyzoides, Tim Thompson and Robert Anderson have written essays for the book covering the history of Mount Wilson Observatory and the influential and brilliant minds that have been connected with it over the years.

TWILIGHT TOUR AT LANTERMAN HOUSE

All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m. This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
