IN-PERSON DOCENT-LED TOUR OF LANTERMAN HOUSE

All are invited for a special hour-long in-person docent-led tour of the Lanterman House, which will remain outside the house and allow visitors to peek inside.

The Lanterman House is uniquely designed to allow visitors to see nearly the entire interior from the outside. The house is completely surrounded by a patio, which can be accessed by an astonishing number of French doors – 32 in total!

Tours of the House are held today,
Oct. 8 at either 6 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $3 to $5 and are available at https://lantermanhouse.brownpapertickets.com/. All social distancing protocols will be observed; face coverings must be worn.

GHS PRESENTS ‘TREASURES OF ADAMS HILL’

The Glendale Historical Society presents “Treasures of Adams Hill,” a pictorial look at Glendale’s Adams Hill neighborhood – past and present. Formerly part of Tropico, a mythologized city that existed for only seven years, Adams Hill evolved into Glendale’s most bohemian and architecturally distinctive neighborhood with an eclectic mix of homes piled up on the hills, many apartment buildings and a quaint business district that includes a historic gas station repurposed as an art space. To this day, Adams Hill marches to its own tune and has a decidedly urban feel with the charm and friendly vibe of a small town.

Arlene Vidor, a Glendale Arts & Culture commissioner who previously served two terms on the Historic Preservation Commission, will lead the free Zoom presentation today, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. She was president of TGHS from 2002 to 2008,  during which time the organization played a key role in the development and adoption of Glendale’s Historic District Ordinance. Vidor is also on the Adams
Hill Neighborhood Association Board.

She received TGHS’ Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 and is a member of the Advisory Council.

FEDERAL LAWS FOR CANCER PATIENTS

An online program covering federal benefit laws for cancer patients will be given at the Cancer Support Community-Pasadena on Tuesday, Oct. 13 from
3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The program is free.

Representatives from the U.S. Dept. of Labor Benefits Security Administration will provide information and edu-
cation on federal health benefit laws. They will clarify what rights a patient
and his/her family may have so they may make timely and informed decisions.

Covered California will provide information on a MediCal overview, financial assistance, health coverage and other health insurance questions.

EGYPT ON CV SIERRA CLUB AGENDA

The Crescenta Valley Sierra Club will present a virtual travel tour to Egypt on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

All are invited to join a Zoom travel program touring the great wonders of Egypt. This virtual tour will be from participants’ computers or other devices as the La Crescenta Library is closed. Joan Serra of Mayflower Tours will be conducting the November 2021 tour of Egypt and Jordan. 

In this travelogue viewers will see wondrous things such as the pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, Citadel of Saladin and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, one of the grand mosques of Cairo. Also to include are the Temple of Philae, a visit to the world’s oldest marketplace in Cairo, the Temple of Karnak, and the Luxor Temple complex. Several of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings will be visited as well as the Temple of Horus in Edfu, the unusual Temple of Kom Omb, the Abu Simbel Temple and a Nile River cruise. Many of these sites are UNESCO World Heritage sites.

This travel show will include locations in Jordan such as Petra, which is part of the optional post-trip tour.

On Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, in conjunction with the YMCA of the Foothills and the City of La Cañada Flintridge, is hosting a drive through community free flu shot clinic. Clinic will be held in the lower east parking lot.

LA CANCER CHALLENGE 5K WALK/RUN

Registration for the 23rd LA Cancer Challenge 5K Walk/Run on Oct. 25 is open. The goal is to unite generations, young and old, through physical fitness to create public awareness and raise much-needed funds for pancreatic cancer research. Pancreatic cancer patients continue being diagnosed every day.

When participants register as a LACC virtual walker/runner, they’ll be participating in a nationwide awareness event that can be completed any place and at any pace of their choosing.

Adult virtual registration is $40 and includes a long sleeve event T-shirt, “Never Give Up” facemask, downloadable running bib and finishers medal. Youth (11 and under) virtual registration is $25 and includes a kids event T-shirt, downloadable running bib and finishers medal.
