The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA is holding several lectures and events through Oct. 24 to promote breast cancer awareness and overall female health. These activities are free to the community and designed to build awareness and educate women on the prevention and treatment of cancer.

La Crescenta Woman’s Club is holding a Halloween costume party at its clubhouse from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. The will be a costume contest, music, dancing and fun. Costumes are optional, but preferred. There will be plenty to eat including ghoulish goodies (hors ‘d’ oeuvres) and devilish desserts. Drinks are $1 each. Event tickets are $10 per person. The second annual Verdugo Hills Golf Course fund raiser takes place on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the golf course. The Men’s Club is spearheading the effort with funds going to community youth who want to play golf at the local golf course. The Glendale-CV Red Cross is hosting its annual Comedy Night emceed by Fritz Coleman on Nov. 1. Coleman and other talented stand-up comics will put on two shows for the benefit of the Red Cross Chapter. Show times are 6:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. at the Glendale Centre Theatre.

Tickets are $25 and $45. Those who pay $45 will receive reserved seating and admission to a VIP Reception at Phoenicia, 343 N. Central, before the 8:15 show.

Golf Classes for Juniors — Saturdays at 9 a.m. Verdugo Hills Golf Course is offering one-hour golf classes for ages 5 to 15 every Saturday. The cost is $10 per session and class size is limited (reservations required). All aspects of golf are covered: putting, chipping on course instruction, irons and woods and the rules of golf.
