KIWANIS CLUB DARK FOR HOLIDAY
The Kiwanis Club of Glendale hosts Lindsey Lansburgh, who will be speaking on Foothill Family, at the Dec. 6 meeting. At Friday’s meeting, attendees are asked to consider bringing a bag of canned foods that will be delivered to a south Glendale elementary school. The food will be distributed to school families that might not have enough to eat during the holidays. Gift cards (and money) are being collected, too, that will go to the YWCA to provide a holiday meal for the families in their shelter, their emergency food storage closet and for mothers with children who show up at the Y during the holidays with little more than the clothes on their back.
Guests are welcome at the weekly lunch meeting. The cost to attend, which includes lunch, is $15. Meetings start at noon.
The Club meets Friday afternoons at the Elks Lodge, 120 E. Colorado Blvd. in Glendale.
PSA HOSTS GROUP ART SHOW
The Pasadena Society of Artists is having a group show through Jan. 4 that features 50 local artists with artworks on view from realistic to abstract, paintings to crocheted figures. All artwork is available for purchase, priced at $250 or less. A mid-show holiday reception and open house will take place Saturday, Dec. 7 from noon to 5 p.m.

ZWEET CAFÉ WELCOMES FOUR FINISHING LINE POETS
On Saturday, Dec. 7, Zweet Café, in conjunction with Finishing Line Press presents four Los Angeles area poets whose work is part of the Finishing Line library, an independent press out of Georgetown, Kentucky.
The reading, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will finish around 3:30 p.m.
The four featured writers are Bill Cushing (“A Former Life”), Candice Kelsey (“Still I am Pushing”), Judith Pacht (“A Cumulus Fiction”) and Nancy Shiffrin (“Flight”). Each writer will read selections from his or her collection of work and will be available before and after the reading to meet with those in attendance. Where possible, copies of their work will be available for purchase.

TELL ME – STORIES OF MIGRATION TO GLENDALE: BREAKING BREAD
All are invited for Breaking Bread, a storytelling event that will bring community members together to share global breads and watch video stories of local community members. The event is on Friday, Dec. 6 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Glendale Central Library Auditorium.

Breaking Bread is presented in conjunction with Tell Me – Stories of Migration to Glendale, a California Humanities-For-All Project grant that allowed the Glendale Library, Arts & Culture Department to chronicle stories of migrants, recent migrants, and second- and third-generation immigrants in the local community.

WREATH AUCTION
On Sunday, Dec. 8, the Pasadena-Foothills Association of REALTORS® Charitable Foundation will host its 28th annual wreath auction. This year’s theme is “Merry & Bright” and is expected to showcase the much-anticipated wreath creations, along with a variety of auction items.
The wreath auction is the Foundation’s most successful fundraiser of the year, inspiring local real estate professionals and the community to raise funds for local charities and the pursuit of higher education.

BEYOND LOSS OFFERS HOLIDAY GATHERING OF REMEMBRANCE
The Beyond Loss program in partnership with the Chaplain’s Dept. at Adventist Health Glendale will offer its annual Holiday Gathering of Remembrance, a place to remember those who have died this past year.
It takes place on Dec. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the main auditorium at the hospital. A light buffet will be served at 5:30 p.m. and a program of music, stories and sharing of names will follow at 6 p.m. There will also be a Wall of Memory for loved ones to post photos of those they have lost.
The holiday season can be a particularly difficult time for those who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. The annual Holiday Gathering of Remembrance is free and open to anyone in the community who has lost a loved one. The gathering provides an atmosphere of physical and emotional safety, respect, acceptance and, understanding.

LITTLE LANDERS ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY
Little Landers announces the return of The Randy Van Horne Singers for the 10th year for the Bolton Hall Museum holiday program on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. The program features performances by Franny McCartney from Sunland-Tujunga and the Space Age Pop Music Sound of the Randy Van Horne Singers. NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS
The Diabetes Care Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center invites the community to a free diabetes community education class held every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital (Committee Room A).
Participants will learn more about living with diabetes – care and treatment, healthy eating strategies – the importance of blood glucose monitoring and A1C and tools for a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of complications.
