OPEN HOUSES AT CASA ADOBE
In the 1800s, California was a sparsely populated country: a few missions, ranchos, and pueblos nestled among the valleys and hills and no season was more eagerly awaited than the Christmas holidays. In that spirit, Glendale Beautiful, a volunteer non-profit which preserves and docents the city of Glendale’s Casa Adobe de San Rafael, presents its Fiesta De Las Luminarias at the Casa, on Dec. 12 through Sunday, Dec. 14.
On Friday and Saturday there are open houses from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with traditional light refreshments. On Friday there will be a piano recital by students of Gerry Keeling at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the open house will feature the Hoover High School Choir under the direction of Meriah Moffat at 6 p.m.
Also on Saturday there will be a children’s piñata party from 1 p.m. to
3 p.m. on the Casa patio with the Horace Mann Elementary School folkloric dancers under the direction of Chris Burt at 1 p.m.
The Sunday open house is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
If weather permits, luminarias will adorn the Casa and patios. The indoor open house and musical programs will proceed rain or shine.

BLOOMIN’ SQUARES SQUARE DANCE CLASS
Bloomin’ Squares square dance classes are on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at the Sunland-Tujunga Municipal Building.
Sessions are open to everyone, no partner required, LGBTQ* and friends.
For those who think of square dancing, images may arise of hillbillies stomping around in a barn shouting “do-si-do,” blue-haired ladies in silly dresses, and horrible times spent in gym classes in grammar or high school listening to fiddle music while a bored gym teacher read out of a book.
The Bloomin’ Squares square dancing program is nothing like that! There’s no dancing in a barn or wearing silly clothes, and members dance to pop, rock and country music! Casual comfortable clothing is encouraged. Only $6 a class.
Bring a snack to share if you’d like! For more information, call (818) 945-1189.
