CHRISTMAS PROGRAM FEATURES SUE PRAGER
Sue Prager, the wife of talk show host Dennis Prager, is the guest speaker of the La Crescenta Valley Republican Women Federated program today, Dec. 14. 50PLUS PROGRAM AT DIGNITY
Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital and Regal Medical Group have partnered to co-sponsor a strength training and Shao Chi/yoga class. This is a two-part exercise program on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Those members of 50plus are welcome to join one or both sessions. The first class will begin with an aerobic style warm up followed by strength training. This full body workout will include the use of resistance bands, exercise balls, tubing, body weight and tai chi sticks. Regal Medical Group will supply all equipment.
After a break, the class will shift to the modern approach to Tai Chi-Shao Chi. Chair and standing yoga poses will also be incorporated in the second class.

LANTERMAN HOUSE HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE
The Lanterman Historical Museum Foundation will host a holiday open house on Sunday, Dec. 17 from 1 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Enjoy free tours of the Lanterman House, light refreshments and caroling with the La Cañada High School choral singers. Visitors will also have one final opportunity to view the Legacy of Frank Lanterman exhibition.

MANAGING THE AGING PROCESS LECTURE SERIES
USC-VHH is hosting a free monthly lecture series titled “Managing the Aging Process” for patients, caregivers and anyone in the community who may have questions and concerns about this challenging transition. The lectures, presented in partnership with Alzheimer’s Greater Los Angeles, will be held the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at USC-VHH.
The next lecture in the series will be held Dec. 19 and is titled, “Communicating Compassionately with Your Loved Ones.”

HANUKKAH IN THE FOOTHILLS
The 2nd Annual Hanukkah in the Foothills event will be held at McGroarty Arts Center on Dec. 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This will be a free cultural and educational event open to everyone of all faiths. Along with an entertaining and informative presentation about Hanukkah there will be music, a taste of traditional foods, and a gift for every child who attends this family-friendly event.  
Hanukkah in the Foothills is presented by members of the Sunland-Tujunga Arts, Recreation, and Culture Committee (STARC) of the STNC. The Rotary Club, local businesses and several service organizations provide vital support.
NOON CONCERTS OPEN TO PUBLIC
Glendale Noon Concerts is a free-admission concert series that takes place every first and third Wednesday from 12:10 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. in the sanctuary of Glendale City Church.
The next concert is on Dec. 20 and features pianist Harout Senekeremian performing works by Haydn, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky.

FIBROMYALGIA/ARTHRITIS SUPPORT GROUP
A community support group for persons with fibromyalgia and/or arthritis meets monthly at La Cañada Presbyterian Church for personal and social support, and education in lifestyle management of these difficult medical issues.
The support group is led by Dianne Whiting, MA, PT and Katie Phillips-Rector, MS, MFT intern.

ART OUT OF TRASH
Cathy Hrenda, resident of Adams Hill, composes artworks from found objects and trash. Since 2015 she has designed and installed a holiday-inspired work in the landmark Richfield Gas Station in the Adams Square Mini-Park with help from the surrounding community. These community projects have been carried out in coordination with the City of Glendale Community Parks and Services Dept.
This year the installation, on view through Jan. 13, is composed almost entirely of trash. Many of the constituent parts were roadside trash gathered on walks Hrenda took in and around Glendale. The piece, entitled “We’re All In The Same Boat,” consists of a six-foot sea serpent covered in bottle caps and other plastic throw-aways. He is accompanied by a man sitting in a rowboat towing a patio umbrella frame decorated with recycled cardboard and plastic bottle ornaments. Students from John Muir Elementary School painted cardboard fish that swim around the boat and ornaments were completed by members of the community in the Adams Square Mini Park.

ONE YEAR: THE ART OF POLITICS IN LA
The exhibit “One Year: The Art of Politics in Los Angeles” continues at the Brand Library & Art Center.
The exhibition features the work of 20 Los Angeles-based artists whose engagement with political topics is an integral part of their practices.

GALA TICKETS ON SALE
The La Cañada Junior Women’s Club is hosting its annual gala fundraiser on Feb. 24 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. An Enchanted Evening at the Villa, held at a historic property that was once featured as a Pasadena Showcase home, promises to be lively and fun while raising money for the Club’s two supported philanthropies, Ronald McDonald House and Five Acres.
The party includes old Hollywood-themed drinks and food, silent auction, wine toss and dancing as a DJ spins favorite tunes.

LOCAL YOGA CLASS
Gentle/level one yoga classes continue on Friday mornings at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s of Mountains Church.  
This class will improve joint mobility, flexibility, muscle strength and balance and will include some restorative yoga poses to help the body heal its own aches and pains by engaging the parasympathetic system. Sessions will be 75 minutes. Instructor is experienced in many forms of yoga. Please bring mat.

FOOTHILLS COMMUNITY TOASTMASTERS CLUB

The support group is open to caregivers, family members, friends and stroke survivors and will help with communication, education, and coping styles while building friendships, solving problems and sharing resources and experience.

NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
 All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS
The Diabetes Care Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center invites the community to a free diabetes community education class held every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital (Committee Room A).

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m.  This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
