Now in its 25th year, the Comedy Sportz improvisation competition continues at Crescenta Valley High School on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. when the varsity team takes on the alumni team.
In January each year, the Crescenta Valley alumni are invited to compete against the high school team. This year marks the eighth annual alumni competition.
The matches include two teams with four players on each side. The matches are played in two halves with a halftime in between.
Faculty advisor Gavin Hall said everything in the matches is made up and suggestions for scene games are taken directly from the audience, creating a lively interactive experience.
“The great thing is that it is fun for all ages, because it is clean comedy,” Hall said. “There are ‘fouls’ for lewd and crude humor.”
Tentatively scheduled to appear are Jade Pope, Harry Abelson, Maya Alvarez, Sally Oh, Stefan Kim, Marissa Ontiveros, Katrina Yentch, Nick Skowronski, and Cora Cormier.
The varsity members who are scheduled to play against the alumni are Matt Collins, Dylan Sylvester, Ian McBride, Mia Tralongo, Lalla Voskanian, Liam Huber, Elizabeth Szulc and Aleen Voskanian.
The high school league of Comedy Sportz is a training program of the main Comedy Sportz improv team located in Hollywood. Students who graduate have the possibility of moving on to Comedy Sportz College Team, Rec League, or other improv training programs.
The Jan. 17 event will be held at the MacDonald Auditorium at Crescenta Valley High School, 4400 Ramsdell Ave., La Crescenta. Tickets cost $5 for students; adults are $10.
