The deacons of La Crescenta Presbyterian Church will be presenting their fourth annual variety show, Strike Up the Band – Part IV, on Sunday, April 27 at 3 p.m. This activity is a fundraising project in benefit for the LCPC Higher Education Scholarship Fund, which has been highly successful since it began in 2020. Thus far, the scholarship funds raised have provided financial assistance for 21 students to attend schools of their choice. Some local bachelors and masters degree programs, such as Biola and The Masters University, include matching funds to church-provided scholarships.
The concert will feature a 14-piece band and vocal quartet under the direction of Noel Collins. Music selections will include pop songs, show tunes, swing, jazz, rock, gospel, Latin rhythms and TV and movie themes. Band numbers will include well known swing renditions with jazz improvs. The singers will be performing solos, duets, and quartet numbers, all backed by the band. Such notable composers/arrangers as Gershwin, Mancini, Porter, Berlin, Ellington, Hefti, Strayhorn, and more will be heard.
Suggested donations for admission is $15 for adults, $10 teens, $5 pre-teens. Four levels of event sponsorships are available that include comp tickets: patrons at $100–plus (includes two tickets), benefactors at $200-plus (includes four tickets), angels at $500 (includes eight tickets) and archangels at $1,000-plus (includes 10 tickets).
Strike Up the Band – Part IV will be held in the sanctuary of La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Ave. in La Crescenta. Bring friends, family, and neighbors for a great afternoon of rollicking music and a post-concert reception!
