Joni Labaqui, director of the Contests for Author Services, Inc. said, “This year marks a historic turning point for both of our contests as we are celebrating two benchmark anniversaries simultaneously: the 40th anniversary of our Writers of the Future Contest and the 35th anniversary of our Illustrators of the Future Contest. The theme for our awards show this year is ‘Shaman Dreams,’ as depicted on the cover of the Volume 40 anthology created by Illustrators of the Future judge Dan dos Santos, to which Writers of the Future judge S.M. Sterling has crafted a story about a young woman shaman, a Starcatcher, with magical powers.”
During the gala, awards will be presented to 24 science fiction and fantasy writers and illustrators of the future that have been chosen as winners of the 2024 contests adjudicated by world renowned science fiction and fantasy writer and illustrator judges. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the London-based band The Jive Aces, performing swing era, rat pack, and classic rock ‘n’ roll songs.
