Tickets are now available for the CS Productions and Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge’s (CCLCF) production of “Mean Girls High School Version.” The production features cast and crew from a variety of local high schools including: La Cañada, Crescenta Valley, John Muir, California School of the Arts, Albert Einstein, Verdugo Hills, Glendale, Los Angeles County High School of the Arts, and Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts.

Director Caren Saiet is excited to bring the production to the Crescenta-Cañada community.

“‘Mean Girls’ is a worldly-wise musical with a wicked sense of humor that explores high school social hierarchies, the quest for identity and the impactful nature of rumors, while championing themes of friendship, integrity and self- acceptance,” she said. “The high school version is an ideal choice to be performed by our extremely talented local high school students.”

Based on the hit 2004 film, “Mean Girls” is the story of Cady Heron, a teen who grew up on an African savanna. She finds that nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung!

The show features a book by Tina Fey (based on her screenplay), music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. Unlike most high school versions, “Mean Girls High School Version” includes the full, unedited script of the show.

“It’s been a goal to offer a theatre program to our community and we are looking forward to our first collaboration with CS Productions,” said CCLCF Executive Director Betsy Ferguson. The production also gave an opportunity for students to participate in a stagecraft apprentice program. In partnership with the LCF Tournament of Roses Association, the teens selected for the program are spending eight weeks building the sets and props under the direction of professional film/TV scenic carpenter Morgan Rusler.

The production is made possible by a grant from the City of La Cañada Flintridge for teen programming, which means there is no cost for the teens to participate. In addition to director Saiet, the professional team includes sound designer Joey Frevola, production coordinator Gina Farina and technical coordinator Morgan Rusler.

Performances are June 28 – 30 at the Community Center Auditorium located at 4469 Chevy Chase Drive in La Cañada Flintridge. Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $15 for student/seniors and $30 for opening night, which includes a reception.
