Brand Library & Art Center and its non-profit organization, Brand Associates, announced the opening reception and awards ceremony for Brand Associates’ 46th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper.
Juror Edward Goldman, a prominent Los Angeles-based art critic, collector, and KCRW commentator, selected all of the artworks on exhibit and will attend the reception to present his Juror’s Award for an outstanding work of art. Other artists will also be recognized by the Brand Associates. The public reception and awards ceremony is on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The exhibition will be open to the public during regular library hours through Oct. 26.
Immediately prior to the public opening of the show, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Brand Associates will host a special ticketed event and new member drive. This Paper preView reception will allow Brand Associates members and attendees to enjoy an exclusive viewing of the exhibit, meet the artists and juror, and purchase artworks. Champagne and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Tickets for Paper preView are available through the Brand Associates website www.associatesofbrand.org.
Goldman joins a distinguished roster of jurors spanning this exhibition’s 46 years. The list includes Laddie John Dill (2016), Lita Albuquerque (2007), Jack Rutberg (2014), Louise Louis (1999), and Claire Falkenstein (1976). Born and educated in Russia, Goldman is noted for his fearless and fun opinions and impassioned views on what he sees in galleries and museums throughout the world. As a supporter of art collecting, he teaches a popular series of classes called “The Fine Art of Art Collecting,” which features visits to artist studios, galleries and museums, and the homes of private collectors. The Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper has been sponsored by the Brand Associates since 1971, in cooperation with Glendale Library, Arts & Culture, and has grown into one of the region’s most prestigious juried art shows. In recent years, the Works on Paper exhibitions have included an increasingly diverse array of three-dimensional artworks as well as an expanding range of approaches to the two-dimensional paper surface. Exhibition chairperson Debra Thompson is a director of the Brand Associates and an adjunct assistant professor of Art History at Glendale Community College.
