The leaves are turning, the air is crisp, and the days draw shorter. Fall has arrived and with it arrives a new season for music in Los Angeles.
A new year for Le Salon de Musiques begins this Sunday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Downtown Los Angeles. Founded by François Chouchan, the series has established itself for its programs where the classics rub shoulders with the unknown, often giving the local premieres of various obscurities from the 19th and 20th centuries.
This Sunday’s program will be no different.
The “Duo for Violin and Viola” by Louis Spohr, a contemporary of Beethoven whose fame for a time rivaled that of the latter, will be bookended by Schubert and and one of the Opus 18 quartets by the great man from Bonn himself.
As with all Le Salon de Musiques performances, a lecture on the music will proceed the performance, which will be followed by champagne. Tickets are $85 (http://www.lesalondemusiques.com or call (310) 498-0257).
Then on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. at the Huntington Library in San Marino, Camerata Pacifica will perform an eclectic program of Los Angeles natives John Cage and William Kraft, with Mendelssohn and Osvaldo Golijov.
Tickets start at $56 and available by visiting www.cameratapacifica.org or calling (805) 884-8410.
